Hello (comment on this journal) by OrcaOwl

Hello friends,

How are you? How is your day going, how is your week going? How has the past few years been, are you doing alright?

I'm going to post more on here maybe, it's the least following I have of all my sites, so that's a good reason to post extra stuff maybe? (This doesn't make any sense)

I've been in a bit of a rut lately, college is stressing me out and I am stressing me out. How do you deal with stress? I want to know. Are there any shows on netflix I should be watching?

Thanks guys, comment if you want, but I guess you don't have to.

Do you want me to make more journals or is this weird?

Love,
Orco

Hey Orco! I've been well. <3 I'm going on a trip in a few months, right now I've just been stressed with work and school, too. To be honest, the most helpful thing for me regarding stress is lots of water, lots of showers, lots of music and incense. It triggers insane amounts of zen. Have anything planned for the upcoming holidays? What projects do you currently have on your plate?

    • Link

Hmmmmm I have a nice smelling candle and should probably actually light it every so often (once I clear all the other things off my desk), that's a good idea... I'm flying across the country to visit my parents for the holidays, which is actually something I'm not looking too much forward to - but it'll be nice to be done with my classes for a little while. I'm looking forward to being able to actually work on my commissions + your art trade!!! I have 5 art classes (they're 5 hours / week each with 5+ hours a week homework so like 50+ hours of art a week (((literal death)))). I'm getting ready to graduate in the spring so all of my art has to be industry quality Now, but it is so difficult and everything is sad and hard and takes too much time haha...

And that's cool, where are you going on your trip? I'm sorry that school / work has been stressful too, I think it's just that time of the year or something, I feel like mostly everyone I know is a little stressed. I've only got 4 weeks left of term / I'm tabling at a major animation convention in a week so I just want to curl up in a ball in the forest, basically.... hahaaaa.............. I am looking forward to working on our art trade this winter break though!! I miss doing animal/furry/anthro works :(((

Absolutely, I say go for it! I have a growing collection of candles that are equally as relaxing. I've noticed more natural scents really relax the mind, but that could be because it's just my preference. Oh dear, that's something I'm looking forward to but also REALLY not for college. I love being busy and productive, but that's so overwhelmingly excessive. xD Good luck! Your artwork is fantastic already, I can't imagine how much better it could get.
I'm going to PA and MA to visit some friends and attend Anthro New England! Do you know anyone that will be there? This will be my first trip to the east coast so I'm really eager to go and experience it all. What convention will you be tabling at?
Also, I've sketched out many a thing for our trade but nothing has truly caught my eye yet. I'm just allowing myself to keep sketching until I really fall in love with a pose.

The candle I have is eucalyptus spearmint so it's a pretty nice natural candle!! I still haven't cleared the stuff off my desk yet so I can use it though..... Soon........ And I think you'll be ok!! College can be rough, but I think it's a good transition into the adult world. The first few years for me were really rough, just being on my own and all with all the school work, but I got used to it. There's still a ton of work, but I manage I suppose?? Surprisingly it's actually likely going to be way easier for me once I graduate, not all schools are horribly difficult and stressful, but mine definitely is, I'm looking forward to being free of it!!!

And ohh I've actually never heard of that one! I'm not really in the New England area very often, I'm mostly either in southern Cali or southern Florida haha. It's humid there and rains a lot more than the west coast, so look out for that!!! I'll be at CTNX this upcoming weekend, it's kind of like a mixture of a convention/conference/professional thing. It's pretty small, but very cool!

And aahhh that's exciting!! There's no rush of course, I won't be able to work on my half for another month likely, I'm holding off til winter break when I have some free time aaaa

          • Link

Oh my goodness. That sounds like a really soothing candle. If I may ask, what college are you attending? I'm still deciding on a school.
How was the con? & gotcha! I'm slowly making my way through art trades now. My half will probably be completed in December as well, there's one more art trade before yours as well as some new commissions to complete. I'm really thinking some ethereal foggy mist for this, maybe something inspired by the worlds I've dreamt up.... Whatever it is I really want to put a lot of effort into it to do your character justice. So we'll see!

I'm at Art Center College of Design! It's the best that there is for learning everything, but only if you get scholarship because it's super expensive. CTN was incredible!! I met a lot of cool people and gave away all 150 of my business cards + promos, so I'm hoping that'll lead somewhere! And that sounds super cool for the art trade!!! I've got a ton of things to do too as far as commissions and all to do, but once I'm out of class they'll come together pretty quickly :)

              • Link

Ohhh, I'll look into it! That sounds great. I just got some new business cards printed for the con I'm going to in January, I'm hoping I'll be able to give out all 100 of them as well. What do you use to create your business cards? I've been using Moo.com which has been great, but they're a bit pricey.

                • Link

I use Moo as well! For cheap ones in the past I've used vistaprint (I did my postcard promos/prints with them!) I don't think it's too usual to give out so many at a con, but since CTN is super professional stuff there was a lot of cards flying away!! Aha

Wow, the answers to this are kind of...involved, haha. I'll say that right now I'm doing a whole LOT better than I was three years ago, and I expect this to be something of an upward trend.

Also, I don't think it's weird at all to do journals like this! Why would it be? It's how you interact with your watch base, get to know people, make friends, etc.

    • Link

Hahaaa yeahhhh... And that's good, I'm glad to hear that you're doing well and better! I hope to catch some of the upward trend too at some point haha

I guess so, I'm just so not used to talking about things that are even vaguely personal. I kind of stopped making journals forever just because I don't like to bother people, I have this notion that people want to see me for my art, and not for my words, but who knows? I do not know haha

      • Link

Here's hoping! I'd like to see EVERYONE'S lives improve in the near future. Too many of us have had to deal with bad situations over the past few years.

Well, I personally love getting to know artists I watch, so I don't mind it at all! Whether through journals, notes, or messengers, I just like to talk to people.

I'm alright, feeling kinda low-key panic over family BS, but I can't solve any of it while they're asleep. The day is going ok, my week overall is moving fairly slowly because of the weather getting colder and slushier. The past few years? No one asks interesting questions like that anymore, very mixed!! A bunch of landmark moments with smaller meditative moments in-between. I don't regret my decisions I've made.

I think it makes sense in its own way. I'm on so many social networks I divide what goes on what just to not sound repetitive and boring.

Ssaaaaaaaaaaaammeee. I wanna get a job, volunteer, catch up in school, and get more involved with the local gaming community…but I'm pretty sure I can only handle 2 of those things MAX OTL

it kinda depends on what is stressing me out. Overall I like listening to classical music (cellos and pianos are my favs), spending time with my dog, and meditating. My fav shows on Netflix are probably unbreakable Kimmy, orange is the new black, scrubs, psyche,
    my fav thing to mindlessly have on Netflix is the histories at the museum series @w@;;

I hope your family stuff gets better, I'm anticipating some of my own family issues when I return to them for winter break, it's not fun! Good luck dealing with it and all. I feel a little slug-y with the colder weather too, but it's also a nice change from the heat, at least where I'm at! That's cool to not regret your decisions - I think it's a good thing.

I'm going to have to try listening to more classical music! Maybe meditating too. I don't have a dog so that's out of the realm of possibilities haha. I love oitnb and have only watched a bit of scrubs and kimmy, I'll have to look into them and the others you like more! Thanks for commenting!

      • Link

        it did, thanks :3
        Family stuff can be so dramatic @m@;;
I do love the extra amount of pockets I get from winter

& no prob! Kimmy is a really good show imho!

I get stressed and exhausted fairly often, and the way that I unwind is coming home, shutting myself away in my room, and listening to music or let's plays such as Game Grumps that might get me to laugh.

    • Link

Aw yeah, let's plays are really great! I gotta get back into watching more of them. I actually haven't watched any of the game grumps videos, I'll have to check them out.

Hi there. I just made an update kinda journal myself which kinda explains the last year or so... Kinda xD
    More stuff is always welcome!
And that includes "weird" journals like this :p

I usually play games and spend some alone time with myself to destress. I don't do the Netflix thing myself :x

    • Link

Games are pretty cool! I have a lot of them, but I need to find some time and energy to play some more. Alone time would be nice too, it's difficult some times for me since I have a lot of roommates and a small apartment, but I'll try it out!

  • Link

WELL im gonna forget most of what you asked me to answer...

life's been okay though I have NO motivation to do ANYTHING (besides apparently beat undertale)
So that's rough when you have tests and speeches and EVERYTHING ELSE to do :/

As far as dealing with stress I just vent things out via music...
In fact this morning I was listening to Click Click Boom by Saliva for this reason...
Note, if you don't vent well with music don't try this approach... even with me sometimes it back fires and makes things worse

    • Link

Aw yeah I totally understand the lack of motivation, I've been feeling that hardcore for the last few weeks especially too. I still need to play undertale!! I'm hoping that I'll get a chance to play it over the winter break after I'm done with my classes and all. I wish you good luck with your tests and speeches and all!!! You can do it!!

Aahh yeah I understand that. I feel like sometimes I do the opposite and dance to dance music when I'm really stressed haha.

      • Link

I think its winter approaching/being here. And undertale is SO great seriously you'll love it. Now that I'm done with it though I'm playing the Darkest Dungeon nonstop lol. And thank you!!!

I've heard some people do that too! I just.. can't exactly dance to Metallica or Linkin Park... or the things I listen to most of the time

  • Link

For stress, I've started collecting songs I can loop endlessly one at a time, in particular. That way I can pay the music mind or not, because I never have to wonder how it goes... not sure if this is well-explained, but it's helped. .x.

I'm not enjoying much besides a giant shark I bought recently, new best pal. I might add "giant animal plush/pillows" as helpful for stress-fighting, too, if pets aren't an option. They're nice and nonjudgmental (unless their face is made that way). Don't let age hold you back from one!

    • Link

Yeah I can understand that! You don't have to think about it very much if you already know what it's going to sound like. I'm guessing listening to entirely new music might not work as well since it's more unexpected.

Aw yeah, I actually do have a bunch of stuffed animals. I've got a giant sheep, it's like 5 ft wide maybe?? I need to cuddle with it more, it is very nice to have.

      • Link

        Keep that buddy around! ;w;)/

And yeah, yeah! Since you already enjoy it to begin with, it's an endless good set of sounds when everything else seems endless... not, ah......
