Halloween tale by Aldin

I know I haven't a lot of followers here. If you are also a follower of babsiwuff babsiwuff, then you may have read this last night on her stream just before my connection went down.

This tale for your Halloween, I swear is true to the best of my knowledge. It is about my maternal grandmother, or as we called her through our French-Acadian heritage, Mèmére (meh-may as we pronounced it, but the proper French pronunciation is the other way around, may-mehr). Of course, she’s been dead for close to 20 years now, so you’d have a hard time confirming my claim.

One Halloween evening, Mèmére had forgotten what evening it was and had left her outside light on as she sat down to watch something on television. Sure enough, some kids came trick-or-treating to her door. Poor Mèmére didn’t have any candy to give out. Thinking quickly, she opened the door, looked at them, and pulled her glass eye (she lost one of her eyes as a child) out and held it closer to the kids. In her best hag’s imitation, she cackled as she said to them, “Let me take a closer look at you, my little pretties!” The kids ran off screaming. Mèmére put her eye back in its socket, killed her light and went back to watch whatever she had been watching on television.

Have a safe Halloween, everyone.
