Warning for patreon creators by SunflowerBun

Please share with anyone who is making content on patreon.

A person has created a website called "yiff party" and is distributing all the images on your patreon via bots. Patreon has done nothing about this and they have been reported via cloudflare and their hosting service, several DMCA notices were sent and they have responded by posting all takedown requests to their page and sending spam emails to all of the artists involved.
Please make a throwaway email and send a takedown request to https://www.cloudflare.com/abuse/form

it collects even the images folks pay for?

    • Link

      It does.

      • Link

huh, so the guy funds his bot so it can pay enought to access the private works, then puts it onto their website?
i mean, like, you can't access those images without paying, his bot can't either, right?

Patreon processes pledges at the end of the month. If you cancel your pledge before then, you don't get charged.

          • Link

I've heard that they are fixing the pledges so they are acquired immediately but no statements have been made publicly afaik and there's no date as to when it will be implemented.

  • Link

I can't say I'm surprised that someone would do this but I am incredibly disappointed :/

    • Link

Same u-u i just want to not have my art reposted even if it's publicly visible.

  • Link

I suggest linking it to artists privately if they ask. the more this link gets around, the more people who want to abuse it will actually abuse it. D: (Patreon did respond to an email about it, and are doing things about it. they are working with their lawyers to find the best course of action before they do anything. Rash action that could cause more complications and backfire on them without proper consultaion. The other issue is that this website also is stationed in russia, which has less strict laws about this kind of thing and since the site is hosted there as well, the legal course of action is going to be very tough. )

The big thing is to *Not post high res files/full content to your blog. Previews and crops, yes. go for it. But send all your content through notes via outside links. (from your website, dropbox, etc.) This prevents people from pledging early and taking content before being charged (which is something patreon is also working to fix. They are redoing their system to prevent people from viewing the blog content before actually paying.) And also prevents these skimmer sites from getting your finished content. (which, people doing this, has been happening since patreon started. Someone just decided to make a website this time around but people have been skimming peoples patreon pages since the beggining. It sucks but its to be expected. people will find content for free somehow, but artists have options to at least make it harder for them to get a hold of it without paying for the content.

It's all around already but I can remove it I guess

  • Link

From what I understand, it is a bot that makes a false pledge, downloads all posts and attachments, then uploads them to this website and cancels the pledge. One way to avoid it is to send out your rewards via messaging or use links that expire after a certain amount of time.

    • Link

that answers all my questions thanks

  • Link

You should consider removing the address of the site.

    • Link

It's already going around all furry boards and twitter so I'm not the first one to post it

      • Link

Your choice. Imo it's just making the site more popular. It also shows that all this exclusive content can backfire like hell. But I'm not a creator, at least not here, so I'm keeping my mouth shut now.

        • Link

its ok im just in a weird way right now very terrible birthday and all my art being slapped up on some loser's website it's just UGH
and i wasn't saying you should shut your mouth btw I was just implying that it's pretty much everywhere whether I share it or not since I want artists to be able to report the website and see if their art is being posted there

Much as I think that whoever is responsible is a sleezebag, I think this demonstrates that trying to use Patreon as a paywall system was never a good idea.

    • Link

It'll be fixed soon and it is a good idea for creators to be paid for creating instead of living from commission to commission

      • Link

Or not living, as it were.

I'm not really a big supporter of the whole Patreon experiment anymore. It turned very fast from a way for people to give support to those they like into a cheap, poorly done paywall system.

Certainly didn't do me a lick of good.

To by honest, it's okay if artists only show their art for money. Less fame, more money and most importantly: their choice. Unfortunately, they spam their stuff everywhere, which pretty much ruins the flair of an art site. Well, lets see where it goes.

          • Link

I have had only one exclusive image and I posted it here, fully, a month later. It's not fair to call our advertisements spam especially when we work hard for the things we post...

            • Link

I'm not talking about you. To be honest, I don't know a single name of a person spamming. With spamming I mean regularly posting about 3+/day images heavily censored to advertise for Patreon. Yes, you deserve the money, that's out of question. But hundreds of artists posting thousands of PATREON YCH COMMISSION STREAMING CHECKTHISOTHERSITE ... it seems like in a few months there'll be more of those than artwork. And that sucks, that's what journals are for, not the submissions.

But who reads journals? <5% are important, rest are minor personal things close friends and stalkers care about and with titles like "Ahh" "Update" it's hard to filter out important information. Not reading hundreds of unimportant journals before reaching something that matters.

Again, you artists in general do a great job and deserve some reward for what you do. I'm just not happy about the way some are actively decreasing the quality of the site they're posting on. That's why I'm normally playing ghost.

Hopefully that explained my previously posted opinion a bit and also makes clear that I'm criticizing the general situation and not you. :)

It is poorly done and definitely needs work but not every artist is doing a full paywall. Even then, it just goes to show how much people consume art that they don't think twice about assuming it's deserved without any feedback or reward. I do agree that work needs to be done for the website but this is extremely off topic and it's not my fault that patreon has to fix their shit so us artists can have our art safely shown to those that support us.
