Doing it right is better then doing it fast, I suppose. Decided to do something a bit different with the last commission. So, I jumped headlong into it, and it blew up in my face (Charcoal every where, and paper ruined).
One problem was I did not have the right tools for the job so I improvised (not always a bad thing), it did not work and wasted half my day. Got to the store, got the right goods, and the 2nd try was much better, but the process ate up my entire day. I wanted to have the last commission done today, but it will be tomorrow now.
As I said on my Twitter page, “Artistic experimentation is the spice of Art it self!” . I feel I must add, “but it may cost you time, materials, and energy.”

I'm not an artist myself. I'm much more apt at science and math. From a science perspective, if you aren't willing to run the tests and take the risks with your materials you'll never find new ways of doing things. Sometimes it doesn't work out and you know not to do it that way in the future. Other times you will succeed and discover something new.
This time it failed, but you learned from it which makes it a partial success. =)
