My little opinion regarding SEGA right now... by Marwan

SEGA seems to be one of the most controversial game companies ever these days.

I recently read some news about SEGA's sale figures. Long story short, the sale figures are... not as big as they had hoped. In fact, it's hitting rock bottom hard. They're losing hard against giants like Nintendo, Sony, etc.. Apparently, the switch to mobile platform was a bad idea.

Well, I admit, I'm disappointed with the way SEGA is heading right now. Actually, I'm sad that, after the failure of their Dreamcast console, SEGA had pretty much given up making their own game consoles. As a child, I remember when I played games on the Genesis for the first time. Back then, it was truly mind-blowing, and the Genesis really did what Nintendon't. Nowadays, they focus on making games for the PC and, in a bitter irony considering their decades of rivalry, Nintendo consoles such as the DS and Wii U.

I'm not sure if I want to, or able to, support SEGA these days. Like I've mentioned earlier, SEGA has gotten more controversial these days. Three years ago, SEGA caused much flak within the YouTube community by randomly removing videos relating to their game, Shining Force III. The reason seemed to be less about copyright infringement and more about improving search ranking for their upcoming Shining game released for the PSP. Lots of affected YouTubers found their YouTube channels disappear forever because of this. Famous game critic TotalBiscuit is one of these victims; to this day, he still swears to keep boycotting SEGA unless they apologize, to which they still haven't to this day.

And let's not forget, regarding SEGA's main mascot and franchise, Sonic The Hedgehog. I remember reading about Sonic 2006 and how infamously broken it is, being nearly unplayable as a result, and how it nearly killed the Sonic franchise. When I heard about Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, I had hoped that it'll at least help to rejuvenate the franchise in some way. Well, it did... somewhat. Like Sonic 2006, the game itself is also broken -- how can anyone forget Knuckles' infinite jumping? -- along with other bugs found right on the very first day of the game's release which enables players to skip large portions of the game and finish much earlier than they were supposed to. Only the Sonic Boom TV series at least helped to keep the franchise alive. Sonic and the gang's new updated designs for Sonic Boom is also a topic of debate, but let's keep that for another story.

Well, I'm just worried if SEGA can still continue to exist as a company like this. Really, what they're doing right now is that they keep digging their graves even deeper. I'm disappointed, because yes, I used to be a SEGA fanboy and enjoyed playing their games on the Genesis, back when they used to be an industry giant that rivaled Nintendo.

My little opinion regarding SEGA right now...
