If Basecraft Cirrostratus Was A Movie... by Threetails

Supposing I suddenly, magically had a few million to chuck into turning "Basecraft Cirrostratus" into a movie with full directorial control. What would that look like?

First, I'd probably remove the explicit erotic scenes and turn it into a PG-13 rating so it could get a wider release. The wider story would be largely unchanged except for some tweaks to make it more friendly to film.

I'd explore a number of options for medium, possibly commissioning short screen tests. High on my list is live action enhanced with CG but I would also consider traditional animation, full realistic CG (if it could be done without that horrible uncanny valley effect) or some hybrid style.

To cut costs and to make sure the film was good, I would hire actors for their talent and fitness for the role, not for their name recognition. I find that stunt casting is both the biggest drain on budgets and the biggest cause of disastrous casting decisions in big Hollywood productions and I feel like paying through the nose for big names isn't a smart choice financially.

As for the score, I'd go for something big, expansive, and orchestral and I'd hire someone capable of giving it the big sound I'm looking for. I also think it would be interesting to throw some songs into the soundtrack that are period-style covers of more recent songs, as a humorous Easter Egg. I was tickled when I discovered that Bioshock Infinite had done the same thing. I'm just imagining a scene with Vinz on break at the Cunning Little Vixen, sitting at a booth smoking a cigarette and looking down about his relationship woes while a certain ginger 'yote I know has a cameo with this tune: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11123594/

It would also be tempting to throw in this one for the scene where Elor is being hassled by the Cylinderheads: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rve03u7oEvI

I'd have a firm hand in production design. The look and feel of every scene would be as close to what I envisioned as possible. If we were doing live action, I'd work closely with prop and set designers to bring that world to life.

Sadly, the likelihood of this happening is slightly less than the likelihood that I'll come into enough money to do it in the first place. Even if I did have a figure that would be a reasonable budget for a film these days- say about $45M- I'd probably spend a lot of that money just helping friends who have been screwed over by diploma mills that issue worthless degrees, jobs that don't pay enough to survive, and extortion from bill collectors for sky-high medical bills.

The thing is, if you have $50M to invest in a movie which will give you $100M income, then you'll have even more money to help friends.

Few films ever manage to break even, especially independent animated films. Ask Ralph Bakshi.
