Art Policy - Trades/commissions by whitefeather

This is updated as of January 21, 2013

I have a few policies I'd like you to keep in mind when commissioning me, doing art trades, and all that fun stuff! Please keep in mind I am a relatively generous patient and kind person. I can and am sometimes willing to make an exception to a rule!

Commissioning me:

First off, thanks for the interest! I really appreciate your support and will always strive to treat all my customers with respect! Also remember though, I work for make up for some of the money I don't make at my job. Also understand your not JUST paying for some art, your payment is just as much a compensation of my time spend working on it.

~ use proper English and Grammar; it doesn't have to be perfect, hell I make a LOT of mistakes, but I don't want to try to piece together what you've told me like it's a lost language.

~Please be clear about what you want; if your unsure WHAT you want, but know you do want some art we can talk it out over notes! I don't mind helping you, but I need you to be as involved as I am.

~ I will NO LONGER accept payment DURING OR AFTER I have finished your art. I have now been cheated out of money for the work I finished TWICE. I cannot allow it to continue.

The process:

All artists have their own methods of working, so do I.

~When I sit down to work on an image I often finish the WHOLE THING IN ONE SITTING. I work hard and fast, this means there is no sketch approval. There is no micromanaging. I cannot stand it, If you are commissioning that means your TRUSTING ME with your idea to bring it to live in the best way I AS AN ARTIST SEE FITS BEST. If you cannot handle with then I cannot work for you. It's stifling to be required, BUT, if you absolutely MUST see the wips or sketches of your image I will upload and wait for you approval for a small fee of 5USD. If you do not approve said wip after it has been uploaded for 2 days I will continue with the commission as I cannot hold up a whole que for one single person and I hope you can understand.

~ Edits/Refunds:

This is a big deal with a lot of people.

~ Slight edits to colors, dialogue, etc are possible and often do-able if the files are saved correctly and I am always willing to do my best to fix errors.

~Positions, backgrounds, or anything that requires more than 2-3 hours to go back and adjust will not be applicable. I am an honest and genuine person. If I feel as though I really have made a mistake or that something really is off about your image I will always come to you with a way to compensate with either another free peice, or a partial refund. Keep in mind though, when you commission me, your also paying for my TIME spent on the images, which is why they are so expensive in the first place. I will do my best to be fair about compensation, but please understand where I am coming from as well. I will not get that time back from you when you get money back from me, I know it sucks; but my time is valuable to some people <3.

~If you do not send me a proper reference sheet to work with I will not refund your money in any way and I will not edit the work. When you do not provide me with the resources I need, you may not get the desired result. This is a learning process for both of us and I admit to any and all mistakes I make as a living breathing person; but having really shoddy references, no references at all, or 3-4 DIFFERENT references is a hindrance. I will often still accept commissions from those of you with no references, but when mistakes happen ,as they inevitably do, It is not my responsibility to fix them. Will I still accept an image based on written description or images that aren't references? Yes, especially to make a reference sheet.

This explains what I view to be an appropriate/non appropriate ref sheet. ---[http://whitefeathersrain.deviantart.com/gallery/39590385#/d4zw1al]

~ No edit is possible after a week, as once a week is up I remove all works that have been accepted and completed to my trash bin and permanently deleted. If you do not alert me to issues before then I will not be able to edit for you and thus everything will be final.

~Checking in

My work time has increased with the quality of my work! Sadly, so have the amount of hours I have to work at my day job to make rent. My day jobs hours are small and fought over as well as minimum wage being so low, I often work a lot for a little, I try to balance out a day of relaxation/rest and taking care of the house work with days of working on commissions. Please be patient with me as I work on your art. My que time is usually a couple weeks at best, although now it's boosted up thanks to taking on some larger projects. I do not mind your curiosity on the progress of your piece, but please remember there is a difference between checking in and harassing.

Customer Service

I work in this business in my day job and hope it carries over here. When working with you I will strive to keep things easy, comfortable and cheerful.

There are limitations to my patience though, in no way will I tolerate rude behavior, outrageous demands, insults and names calling. All of the above will get you permanently banned from my page and will certainly rule you out of commissions, refunds, edits and any other business with me. Go ahead, submits and A-W, I will not bat an eye.

While the art was paid for by you, my art on my gallery is still mine. I will not remove commissioned work for any reason. It's my right to keep and show off my work. I will also not edit a previous commission due to broken relationships etc. You must purchase a new one, because by the time I am done it will be the same amount of work and far less hassle.

Things you CAN do with your personal art from me:

~Use cropped versions to make an icon for you/a friend

~Upload to your FA/weasyl/DA/inkbunny whatever page with credit and/or a link back

~Use as a screen save -how would I know lol-

~Request the full res file to your email for personal use (if It it still within my files)

~Ask me to make edits and changes to your pictures/ref sheet. After the initial first week anything on the reference sheet that is not changed is final unless you edit the information yourself. After a week the PSD file of your image is deleted from my personal computer to preserve space. At this point all changes and edits will be in your hands and are NOT my responsibility.

Things you may not do:

~Resell for ANY REASON

~Resell a character design for ANY REASON

~Edit with the intent to claim as your own

~Use if you are not the commissioner, partial commissioner, featured in the piece, or have been given permission by myself and/or the commissioner

~Trace and claim as your own

~ Re-upload and claim as your own

Selling work

It has come to my attention that this is a trend.

If you have commissioned art of a character, then sold the character you MAY NOT SELL MY ARTWORK WITH IT. If I find out this has happened rest assured action will be taken against you. This is infringment on me, no one should resell my art, designs, or anything of that nature to anyone else. Period. No exceptions.

"Hi I am a learning artist, I really like your work am I allowed to reference art from your gallery?"

As I am such an artist myself, I have to say yes, just make sure if the piece is ALREADY referenced that you make sure to credit the original and not mine. Again, it's IMPERATIVE you give credit. CREDIT CREDIT CREDIT. If one of my works is reference and you find the link, PLEASE let me know! Sometimes I lose links, but I still want to give credit where it;s due!

MY RIGHTS

I HAVE THE RIGHT TO :

Say no to a commission and not tell you why.

Say no to an art trade and not tell you why

Please respect this, some characters are simply beyond what I want to draw, generally I am not a fan of sparkle characters or hugely intricate designs. I'm not trying to offend, only saying I won't accept them. As a human being with personal tastes I have this right and those who bitch and complain will simply be blocked.

If you have any questions please hop over here- to read my FAQ! Or note/send me an email at shdowspryte@yahoo.com
