Memory Lane: A Fan's Falling Out by Tantroo

It seems that right before AC there was a bit of a kerfuffle a-twitter. Some drama has brought up 2 the Ranting Gryphon's name again, which I see fewer and farther between myself these days. It may surprise people to know that when I first started off in the fandom, I was a fan of the Gryphon.

It may have been because I was young during an era where there was systematic oppression around me. At the time, during the Bush Era, having someone point out house stupid things were so verbosely was a refreshing thing, and maybe a little inspiring because fresh out of high school my voice had long been drained from me because of constant exposure to suffocating peers. You know, I had to enjoy something dumb in college because booze and sex weren't on that list...

Don't judge me!

That and maybe when you're in your early twenties, anything someone in their 30s says is more filled with experience than anything you could formulate yourself.

I still do admire the courage to speak one's mind despite what may come of it, however as I have gotten older I have learned the greater intricacies of language. And that is, those with a reasonable intelligence should know exactly the outcomes of what they're going to say before they say it. Or maybe, that is not the case as much as I would think it to be.

But I think as many have grown older and more experienced, picking up the positives of our elders, but also noticing their flaws there is always going to be a point where you may out grow them. Or, perhaps, they may change so that their flaws start to out-weight the good you saw in them prior.

For me that day was on Feburary 21st, 2010.

That was the day in which 2 the Ranting Gryphon lobbed praise upon a tax dodging man who flew his private jet into an IRS building and took the life of an employee there: http://2-gryphon.livejournal.com/219702.html

It was at that point his rage at the system, which he as always had took a dark turn for me. The journal was very candid, very to the point. It was not written in parody or a rant about the IRS in general. To me it was colored far different than his shock rants or his fun venting. It was a serious praise for a man who owned a private jet, not paying his fair share, taking the life of some random bureaucrat who probably paid all their taxes (and made less than his 'hero' to boot).

The reason I guess I wrote this journal is that I thought it'd be fun to share stories about if you were ever a fan of someone (maybe 2?) and then something happened where you stopped following their work. What are your stories about when you stopped being someone's fan?

I guess its only a matter or time before someone so outspoken to have his/her ideals weigh more than someones life. We all have our preferred entertainers even today but even then you never know what is truly brewing in their heads as time passes. You have to take each of them with a grain of salt.

2 seems like the kind of guy you're into simply because all your friends seems to like him, and all your friends like him only because they think you'd like him. I remember a couple of friends in high school got me into runescape. I didn't think it was fun at all, but I didn't have a choice because my friends liked it so I had do. Then one day out of the blue they both said they hated the game and would stop playing. I thought to myself "thank God, now I don't have to play."
