Thinking Of Selling One Of My Cars by Threetails

So as some of you know, at the most vehicles I ever owned, I had about six, ranging from a tiny Chinese scooter to an 4-ton military ambulance; of these, one blew a transmission, one was given to a friend and two were sold.

That leaves me with just two: My 1956 Citroen 2CV which I want to bring out here to the West Coast one day, and my 1966 VW-based replica of a Type 35 Bugatti.

The Bugatti replica was an heirloom, which is probably why I held onto it for so long. it sits on a cut-down 1966 VW floorpan with a 1600 CC engine swap and a 12v electrical system upgrade. It had dual carbs but the weird, hand-made setup was impossible for my father and I to sync properly. It also had Model A wheels but these were never well-balanced.

The car is a show winner, bagging first place in the kit cars and specials category at multiple Volkswagen shows.

Here's the thing: I never admitted this before, but the truth is I'm scared to death of driving it. It's a bit light in the front and with the extra power and weight in the rear, it tends to come up off the ground and accelerates hard. Also, it's an open-cockpit boat-tailed speedster body.

What I really want is to sell this car and buy a more sensible car that I can actually drive across country with confidence. The Citroen's engine won't cope with the Sierra Nevada or the Cascades and parts are hard to find on short notice, so that'll have to be shipped if I can ever afford to do it.

I'll keep the Citroen for a Sunday driver, but I'm warming up to a Corvair or a Falcon to replace the Bugatti as both are pretty efficient and easy to find in good running order for less than $9000.

As for the Bugatti, I have seen similar cars go for about $12,000 and because this is a show winner I won't sell near as cheap as my other cars, but I'm willing to let it go for $8500 or I'll trade for a 60s American compact in excellent mechanical condition with minimal rust. If you want pictures of the car, PM me. The car is located in South Carolina, not in Oregon so if you want to see it we can make arrangements with my family.

Now if you were selling the 2CV ...
i used to have a TR4a with dual carbs. I needed to keep a toolbox and stethoscope in the trunk at all times.

We just put a single carb setup on it. Now it runs perfectly fine.
