Historical Consultants for Film and Television? by Threetails

Does anyone know how to break into being a historical consultant for film and television?

All of the sites I've read on the subject lack one crucial piece of information: how do you connect with directors and production designers who are looking for consultants? Is there a marketplace for this? An ad in "Variety" perhaps? Or should I start by applying to consultancy firms?

There's a good bit of film and television that happens in the Northwest, especially Portland, and I'd like to get my name out there because that seems like a perfect job for someone like me.

Yeah, you may have to find a way to get an internship to get the contacts.

And if you make a thematic blog ?.

That's a brilliant idea! I could make a blog where I critique the historic research that goes into period films!
