Well, turns out that the Whirlpool Galaxy as an actual galaxy. Messier 51, just next to the Plough (or the Big Dipper). Take a look~!

M51 (NGC 5194 and NGC 5195) is goddamn beautiful, one of my favorite sky objects. It's so pretty to see the stars pulled slowly from one to the other, and the grand-design type galaxies are so lovely! :)
Also beautiful, M74 (NGC 628) which is darn-near RIGHT ON in positioning! It's also a grand-design spiral.
Finally M101 (NGC 5457) is a face on flocculant spiral with very delicate features.
