Why Weasyl? by Kivwolf

Okay, some of you may be surprised to see me on another site aside from FA.

You're probably wondering why.

Well, like a lot of people I am concerned about how FA is turning out. IMVU stuff aside, everyone is concerned about their privacy and security on the site. The new ads that have been added to the site have been reported to contain malicious software and other assorted viruses. That worries me. If someone decides to be a jerk and use the ads for stuff like malvertising, a lot of info can become compromised.

I don't want that. The last thing I need to be on FA, minding my own business, and then have something like a rogue antivirus get dropped onto my laptop from a drive-by download of an infected ad or banner. Stuff like that is was made me leave DA (though I have tired to go back there at times).

I don't want to leave FA, it has been my home for nearly 7 years and a lot of you have seen me grow from that site.

But I, in god conscience, cannot go to a site that is at risk like that. I hope the admins will open their eyes and ears for a change when people begin to leave FA because they're getting malware from infected ads.

Also, I know about using AdBlock, but for some odd reason I can't get it to work on my comp. I have Windows 8.1 and use IE to browse.

For now, I will be on the fence about FA until I hear something about protecting its users.

I definitely have to agree with this as I've been feeling the same way.. FA is bound to go downhill and I want my art to be safe. Weasyl is the way to go it seems. nods

Dragoneer personally apologized for the sidebar ads and got rid of them. Just thought I should let you know.
Of course, some people are still mad at him but haters gonna hate.

Until he's able to ensure all ads that may contain privacy threatening software are off the site, I'm on the fence still.

I've never used Adblock on MIE, though it does come built in with some small ability to block things like popups. I prefer to use Firefox these days with Adblock and NoScript enabled. So far I've found it to be the best way of keeping your browser as safe as possible from bad domains.
