'sup.
I'm bored and I haven't made a normal journal in a while. At least I don't think I have. The past few months kinda blur together.
I'm still working on finding a stable job and mostly subsisting on odd jobs and occasional freelance work. I had an interview yesterday that may actually result in some more consistent freelancing but that's all still in the offing. Ideally I'll know more about it later today.
When I'm not drawing cartoon porn I've been putting my time away with Bloodborne and Etrian Mystery Dungeon. Bloodborne is amazing, Etrian Mystery Dungeon is...not. I also tried to get into Pillars of Eternity, but oldschool crpgs weren't really my bag even when they weren't oldschool, and it doesn't look like this is going to change that. Filmwise, I caught It Follows in theatres last weekend and it was pretty rad. The writing kind of fell apart and the ending was disappointing, but it's consistently scary and I guess that's all you can really ask for from a scary movie. It's probably one of the only movies I've ever seen where the monster actually gets more terrifying the more screentime it has, instead of the opposite. Against all appearances, I'm hearing that Unfriended is actually great. something someting best reinvention of found footage genre since Paranormal Activity and/or Blaire Witch. Yeah I'm not entirely sure what to do with this information.
So that's my past few months, a kaleidescope of busywork, art, and video games. How's it with you folks?
I was worried that putting Etrian into the mystery dungeon format would somehow make it worse. Does it have enough of a story to carry you through the less fun parts?
Well it's more like it takes a different approach to the story. You know how the etrian games put all of their dungeon interactions in the form of second person narration, so it kind of works like a digital dungeon master in a tabletop RP session or something? EMD has none of that. There aren't any event scenes in dungeons, so the only story is what's happening with the townspeople and stuff. And it...frames the events, at least. But it's far from being especially good or memorable. It just feels really phoned in.

Good luck to you! Also, thanks for the headsup about EMD.
