Conventions you go to? by Thestory

Lets talk Conventions

I know there are a good deal of furry conventions coming up soon. If I am able to, I may check out CaliFur for the first time this year. It would be my first furry themed con ever and I've been wanting to visit one for a while now. Sadly I work every Friday and Saturday at a local cigar lounge so I have to plan ahead if I want days off.

I'm not new to cons though. I've been to Comic Con, if a while back. Also been to WonderCon and Comikaze Expo. I'm going to WonderCon again this Easter weekend for all three days. It should be fun since I've never dropped in for more than a day on any of these events. I booked a hotel and saved up plenty of cash to play with (and expand my art collection with). It should be a nice break and tons of fun.

The actual question here...

I'm just curious what conventions you all visit regularly? Also, anyone else going to Wondercon?

I've been attending Texas Furry Fiesta the last couple years, as well as Camp Feral. Those are the only two on my regular attendance list, although I've made tentative plans for MWFF this year.

Both of those sound pretty fun. One day I will go somewhere out of state. maybe next year I should make that a goal.

      • Link

I'd recommend leaving the state at least once. It's good to know what else is out there. (This is also why I recommend leaving the country for a little bit.)

I've been to Further Confusion mostly, in 2011, 12, 14, and this year. I missed FC2013 but to make up for that year, I went to both Fanime and CTN Expo. I hope to make it to FC 2016 because I'm getting a fursuit head soon and want to show it off! I'll probably have to debut it at someplace smaller like Frolic in SF first though.

Oh cool. I'm going to assume you live in California too. I haven't heard of Frolic before I have to admit. I'll need to look into that.

      • Link

Yep I'm in California. And Frolic is a small dance party event to be exact, not a convention. Also, I forgot to mention I also attended a new convention last November, Pacific Anthropomorphics Weekend. That was my first time being a table artist!

Wizard Con, Rose City Comic Con (both in Portland, OR, thus being easy to get to 'cause I'm lazy)

Also sometimes Emerald City Comic Con. That one is HUGE.

Haven't been to an actual furry convention since around 2005.

I don't blame you. Planning an out of state trip is a pain. Not to mention the extra cost just for travel.
Is the Emerald City version of Comic Con a good sort of huge or bad huge. I remember going to the one in San Deigo was a little too crazy back in '08...'09?

      • Link

I hate flying so I usually will only go so far as I can get driving for three or four hours....which makes cons up in Seattle quite reasonable. Emerald City Comic Con was huge in a good way. So much to see, so many booths, so many attendees. The last one I attended in 2012 was packed...almost overwhelming navigating through the big crowds, but it was certainly worth going.

I go to Animaritimes a local anime/gaming con which has a few furries attend although ive never gotten involved with the furs there. I may be going to thus hear since I got to know a few of them online now.

Ive considered going to a furry specific con some time but there isnt really anything in the maritimes and traveling any furthur is a bit too much for me

I deal at FurAffinity: United, Furpocalypse, Anthrocon, and now Anthro New England. Might add FurtheMore to the list next year.

Also just a heads up, furry conventions are VERY different than anime, comic, or other pop culture conventions.

I go to Further Confusion and some of the gatherings around here like Chicken and such. I've also been to Fanime, which is at the same center as FC, though its an anime con.

    Otakon 2008-2014
    Anime next 2010
Kotoricon 2011 2012 and there spring festival 2015
    Fa united 2011-2014

I'm planning on Fau only for this year, money's been tight

I deal and staff further confusion, and Califur.

Furry Weekend Atlanta, which is coming up. I have been since 2006.
    AnthroCon, since 2008.
Dragon Con, since 2004. Began as a volunteer staff since 2007.
Anime Weekend Atlanta, for only one day since 2003.

I've been going to Further Confusion, Rainfurrest, Califur, and Vancoufur at least a couple of times each! I'm pushing to go to Biggest Little Fur Con later this year as well

Just local science fiction and tabletop role-playing/wargaming gaming conventions here. I haven't been to the local anime convention in a while, but that's primarily due to overcrowding and my increasingly congested schedule.
