FA + IMVU and my Weasyl stuff by jarmenj

Gonna slowly start migrating my stuff over here over the next few days after the bomb that was dropped yesterday in the form of 'Neer admitting the site was sold a couple months ago. I've got a large gallery and don't wanna flood everyone, but will see about being more active here as it seems to be a great website ran by good people.

hands plate of welcome goodies I would like to the think people would move to this site or SF if things go awry over on FA, but if things don't change, I don't foresee people moving much

Thanks, my friend! Yeah, it'll probably blow over but still, why not? The site's got a much better layout.

Oh, yeah, I like and enjoy Weasyl far more than FA, but when the big artists wanted to move they couldn't because the watchers wouldn't move with them creating a vicious cycle of people staying on FA.

Mhm. Effectively, FurAffinity is what I'd call a Pseudo-Monopoly in regards to where one can look for artists and commissioners. I say Pseudo as other places exist, with some being the only place to find certain artists, but generally as it stands, if you want art, go to FA, if you want to sell art, go to FA. This is the case anytime one place or group contains the overwhelming majority of both supply and demand, and to go somewhere is detrimental unless en-masse by both the suppliers and consumers. Only way that changes, is if a legal entity comes in and shuts it down (very unlikely in this case), or if they feel they are forced due to change that they percieve as catastrophic to their interests. Apparently, despite the fact that Dragoneer clearly lied yet again with his recent promise of "transparency", his track record, the track record of IMVU, the fact that they went the typical corporate buyout route of NDA to delay the announcement and hide important details, and the fact that Dragoneer is an employee of IMVU and not the owner of FA now (which anyone who has any knowledge of economics and corporate policy would know to mean they can fire him at any time and replace him, allowing them to void any past "promises" regarding what they are going to do), I'm surprised that things quieted down the way they did in only a few weeks...so the next move is IMVU's.

Pretty much, what it comes down to is that a lot of artists don't want to lose their income base, and some artists just hate Weasyl's layout, which yes, could have a few tweaks here and there to make it more useful, but at the same time, some of it is just learning a new system, which is actually healthy for the brain as a side note. I do understand it from a Sellers point of that the art is your income, and if you move, you can't guarantee your user base will follow. I can appreciate the wait and see attitude, but I still think Weasyl's layout is a bit cleaner because I actually does comments properly rather than it just being dropped below based on a time stamp rather than a reply thread.

I am trying to keep an active gallery in both places, just for the sake of if I have to move, because FA did something terrible, then it won't be as bad.

Read up on it on FA, it's one of those announcements.
