hey out there, I know this journal title may look strange, but somehow a fairly large portion of my fanbase seems to assume I am a fan of this weird horror game called Five Nights at Freddy's. I've had MANY invites to fan groups and several people have simply asked me to make customs of the characters by name as if I knew them right off the top of my head. Despite the game's ridiculous popularity I'm not even 100% sure it ACTUALLY EXISTS! I've never seen so much as a review of it online, I have NO idea what platform it's available on (I'm assuming it's a PC game, which makes sense since I neither play nor sell PC games) and when I google the stupid thing I get page after page of fanart, I don't even know what an official screencap of the game LOOKS like. I think I have an idea of the plot, you're a security guard in a knock off Chuck-E-Cheese place and overnight the animatronics come to life and stalk you, if they catch you they stuff you in a robot suit, killing you and turning your corpse into a robotic puppet for their show. Now I have nothing against this game OR it's fanbase, but full disclosure folks, I AM NOT A HORROR FAN! I don't watch horror movies, I don't read horror comics, I don't play horror games, it is just a genre I am not into at all. My pop culture knowledge of the genre comes from online reviews I watch on sites like the escapist or channel awesome, but in this case I have nothing to go on but fanart and comics done by people (VG Cats is an example.) Of course the reason this journal has to exist is the worst possible one, because I find myself SICK of this game and it's seeming omnipresence. As far as I'm concerned this game is a flash in the pan, an above average sample of a genre that rarely produces good games and so garnered a lot of short lived attention from fans of the genre, basically I see it as a fad. I don't know if it actually IS a fad, but that's simply my perception, this game is like a boy band or the latest pop star (for the record I'm not into reality TV or popular music as well so forgive me if I can't come up with examples.) It's being shoved into my face by a bunch of avid fans who think it's the bee's knees without bothering to explain why and I'm just sick and tired of smiling and nodding along. Sorry folks.
