FHL Season 4 First Quarter Discussion by FHL

Hello to all GMs, Commissioners, Players and Fans of the FHL, and Welcome to the First Quarter Discussions. I(Kenku) decided to put this together today so as to get opinion on items that may be coming up during or at the end of the season, and to get opinions on various subjects from others within the league. So without further ado, here are the items to discuss:

Items of Discussion:

  1. Possible End of Season Vote: Growth Point Scaling
  2. Expansion
  3. Achievement Sheet Updated
  4. Retainment
  5. Questions and Comments

POSSIBLE END OF SEASON VOTE: GROWTH POINT SCALING

Currently, this point is only in the point of discussion, it will only go to a vote at the end of the year if there is support for it.

It has come to the attention of several commissioners that the league may have a minor power creep issue. Over the past three seasons, we have seen players on the higher end of the stat scale begin to gain a larger statistical gap on newer players below them. This is due to a system that is based on rewarding performance, and thus, players that are good on stats(and thus are garnering more playtime) are achieving better and getting higher rewards.

While the commissioners support the system, it has come to our attention that the rate at which higher end players are out reaching others, may be a bit high. Thus,we have decided to put on the table a change to the cost of growth points, from a flat 1000XP after your fourth point, to a scaling cost system.

The current proposed system looks like this:

At 0 to 4 Career Growth Points, 1 Growth Point costs 500 XP, as before
At 5 to 8 Career Growth Points, 1 Growth Point costs 1000 XP, as before
At 9 to 12 Career Growth Points, 1 Growth Point costs 1250 XP
At 13 to 16 Career Growth Points, 1 Growth Point costs 1500 XP
At 17 to 20, 1 GP/1750 XP
At 21 to 24, 1 GP/2000 XP

and so on from there.

With this system, players are still rewarded for excellence in playing, but at the same time making it easier for those with less GP to close the gap. These costs however do not affect perks, which is felt costs enough as it is and can only be purchased once a skater’s career per each unique perk.

Again, this is only in the early discussion stage. If people do not care for this, we will take it off the table. Else, expect a vote on this proposal just before the end of the season. Please also note that these costs would only affect the purchases of new Growth Points during next off-season and from there on out.

EXPANSION

During the off season between seasons 3 and 4, there were discussions about expanding the league from 16 teams to 20 teams. Currently, we do have enough potential GMs on the Waiting list to do this, but we do not have the skaters to properly supply all the teams. However, as was the case with the change from the one line to the three line system during Season 3, with a player surge it can be done.

At the current time, the target number for expansion is 220 skaters(11 Skaters for each team). We currently sit, at last count, at 186. If we can get at least 30-40 primary skaters by the first month of the off-season, then we will look into expanding the league. Please remember there is a referral reward for every new player that states you referred them to the league. You are awarded a 350 XP bonus for your skater for the year. There may also be a referral drive with addition XP available should the numbers look close as the season comes to a close.

ACHIEVEMENT SHEET UPDATED

After some discussion, it has been decided to expand the Achievement Sheet to give players more options to succeed at milestones and to get early experience without having to be directly in the spotlight. The new Achievement Sheets can be found here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rc9-QWIjYCZba3butaZMIV6wLSVZ6zLqWJRbbO_QWLE/edit#gid=1428820378

To use the Achievement sheet, copy the sheet to a spreadsheet of your own, and when you believe you have completed a milestone, copy the link to the appropriate page, and change the "no" to a "yes". At the end of the year, submit the sheet to the FHL and we will verify it and reward you proper XP. For veterans, the sheet is still retroactive to Mid-Season 2 as the first sheet was, and we are fine with taking the original version at the end of the year, just know that you risk losing out at opportunities the new sheet grants.

Please remember that the sheet is a career long sheet, and thus does not reset at the start of the season in the case of Tan Achievements.

RETAINMENT

Currently at the end of the year, each team is allowed to select 6 players to retain on their team for the next year. The remaining players enter the offseason draft, to which they can be redrafted by their team, or may end up being picked up by another. Due to what may be the number of players in the league at the end of the year, and with how many rounds of draft there were in season 3, there have been discussions of going to 8 skater per team retainment. There were however, discussions of retaining fewer players. More information will be available as the season goes on.
