Keep your systems clean: Malware targeting password managers by ramzyuu

It should come as no surprise, but new strains of malware now target password manager programs and try to harvest data from them on infected systems.

I still strongly recommend using a password manager with long, scrambled passwords.
Just remember that if you do, it's even more important that you keep your computer clean of any baddies.

If you even remotely suspect that you might have caught something, run a Malwarebytes scan (use the free version; decline the trial offers)

In fact, do one right now just for kicks. You might be surprised at what it finds.

Thanks for the heads-up on this. Hadn't scanned in 44 days, but MWB didn't find anything aside from a few PUPs, so I'm most likely good. Just one question, though: are rootkits a significant threat on Win7 and later? I know XP was vulnerable, and that MS were making changes in their followup OSes as a result, but hackers, like life, tend to find a way.

You are always helping with bits of information and advice, and as a person who understands their computer as a magic box where stuff just happens to happen, I am deeply grateful UwU
