Twitter, and FA by Fira

Okay, just an FYI for the most part, but I'm paying VERY little attention to Twitter these days. Aside from occasionally checking my timeline, I only really see mentions and DM, and only because they hit my phone.

I don't like Twitter. I find them to be even more shady than Facebook, the 140 character limit pisses me off, and duscussions there stress me out even after heavily limiting my timeline. It's all about politics, complaints, activisim, and other things I don't really want to see. The only way to keep it off my timeline is to mute the people saying it, but then I see nothing from them. I just want to mute things that I don't want to see, but Twitter doesn't give me that option.

What does give me that option? Facebook! I know a lot of people cry foul about it being too filtered, or over thew data mining (which Twitter does as well), or the real names policy (which isn't enforced nearly as often as people think it is), but I still use it. Why? Because I can mute individual posts, not just people. I can get rid of things that stress me out, and it learns about those things to help filter them automatically. That's a massively handy feature for someone like me, who doesn't like being swamped by negativity all day every day.

I can understand people who are down or depressed, and they're fine. I'm talking about constant streams of complaints, lots of politics, lots of tauros-shit about things like "shirtgate" and "gamergate"…It gets old FAST. It's the same reason I dropped Tumblr so fast, and why I avoid sites like Reddit and HackerNews like the plauge. Things get out of control very quickly there, and there's little moderation (something humans desperately need these days).

After trying so many times to drop Twitter, I've come to realize that most of my problem comes from being somewhat weak about it. I keep getting "bored" and going back, which is my own damn fault. As such, I'm making myself stop by slowly tapering off my use, rather than just cutting it cold turkey. I don't want to be on a site like that anymore, and I'm going to keep myself on that goal. I need to, for my own sake.

I'll be on Facebook if anyone wants to follow me there.

Also, before anyone potentially asks, I'm not commenting on the recent FA "scandal" itself. It's not my issue, and I don't own the site (despite so many other users thinking they do).

However…Even if I disagreed with what happened, I wouldn't do what so many people have done so far. The level of personal attacks and hate coming from normally respectable people has actually soured my view of the "other side". Seriously, people…If you don't like what's happening, use another fucking site! Don't try to force others into doing the same, or be derogatory and hateful towards those who don't follow you, but if you really feel that was about FA, encourage others to go elsewhere, or at least to try other sites. Above all else, don't come back with your tail between your legs and bitch about the site again. Stick to your decision!

Yeah, that's what all this drama has done to me, and it felt good to get that off my chest. I'm out of here.

That's pretty much how i feel about it, and I have other backup sites because i don't commit to one anyways. Still, some of these people just think that because they don't like the new coder, it's somehow their personal agenda to start pissing at people to try and remove him from the site asap. That's not how it works and it just makes that person look more like a douche.

Exactly. I use FA, SoFurry, Weasyl, (occasionally) Inkbunny, DA, Pixiv, and even my own site. Aside from my site, I respect the decisions of the owners, even if I don't agree with them. Toumal's support of star ratings on SoFurry angers me, but I'm not going to tear into him for taking control of his project.

As one of my friends recently said, too many people abuse what they see as "free speech", then fall into a persecutory delusion when they're called out for either the abuse of that privilege, or for flaws in their argument. To quote him directly: "Tumblr, Twitter, and Reddit are filled with people too spoiled to survive in the real world, and they keep spilling out into other sites."

        Pretty much. ._.
