That moment you realize you forgot a very important detail… by Fira

It's funny... All this time, I've described my character Nocti in writing as a rather normal Growlithe or Cerberlithe for the most part, but I forgot one important detail about him that actually hints at who his real parents are. He has a pair of short stubby horns just behind his ears, both of them coloured a deep orange. As a non-Pokémon, they curve down and forward.

I had this detail in all of my written notes, several old sketches that I threw out, and in many other places...yet I never ONCE mentioned this in any story with him. Eventually, I stopped referencing those notes, and I forgot. When it got to the point to make the reveal, I couldn't easily tie him to his parents, so I got stuck... Then, when writing his non-Pokémon description in an experimental version of the story that I'm considering selling, I remembered the horns for his species, and everything suddenly clicked. I had the answer I needed.

Those moments are kinda what make writing fun for me. The moments of inspiration, the moments of wondering where the hell I need to go next, and the "Oh derp!" moments where you remember something you forgot to put in.

That moment you realize you forgot a very important detail…
