Rainfurrest 2014 – My Experience by nightdragon0

I came to Seattle a few days early and had a little trip up to Vancouver after RF. Was great to reunite with some friends from the last time I was in the US, and also to meet new ones. But now that I’m at the airport headed back home (RL, nuuuuuuu), I can pen this down.
What I wanted to do was film a bunch of videos to make a convention video, and I’ve certainly got enough to be working on it. I hope to have that done soon!

Thu
Headed to the convention hotel on Thu, with Singha, VinVertigo & Ark. Really great to be at a convention again with Singha (since our last one together was AC13).
Attended the opening ceremonies, which I filmed, as Kijani had forgotten his camera.
What I mainly remember about Thu was that people were dispersing to look around, grab things they forgot to bring (cough cough Singha), I ended up back in the room with Vin.
We looked at each other.
“Let’s fursuit!”
“OK!”
Cue me running around in suit, filming, and ending up at the Thu dance.
And I finally met up with Temperance, maker of my fursuit. And the ‘Canadian Dragon group’ (Grael, Drekian, amongst others). I’m very sure they were all trying to convert me to Canadian. I’d be totally OK with that! :D

Fri
Poked in Temperance’s panel, then went off to the dance competition prelims.
The style in which we had to wait could have been better done however. As we had to wait outside the room, in a line, in the crowded corridor. And go inside one-by-one to perform our routines. The reason was that they didn’t one us to see each other’s routines, which was fair enough.
But now that I was stuck out in the corridor, I was halfway between ‘dammit, I’m deheading & ruining the magic’, but I stuck with it. It was still rather exhausting though. Especially since I estimated I waited for close to an hour.
I did leave some feedback later that they could just let us queue in the headless lounge the next year. At least we could comfortably get water, cool down and have more places to sit.
The good part was being able to chat with the others in line, get photos & received my fursuit badge while there.
After that, was Temperance’s group photoshoot. Had our own Dragon photoshoot with Drekian, Grael, FlameInferno , QB.
And then it was time to Dragon around. DDRRRAAAGGGOOONNNNN!
(Sorry, inside joke!)
Dinner was at a place that simply couldn’t cope with the crowd, so we got to the Fursuit Meet & Greet late (and out of suit).
Singha brought the Tiger of the Wind quadsuit out too! So he got to decorate the carpet for a bit.
Later on, more night raves. I think I’ve danced more at the raves here than anywhere else. Being in fursuit & having my Go-Pro along, I’d dance a little, film a little, cool down & chat, then dance again.

Sat
Fursuit parade!
Everything you’d expect it to be. Crowded, lots of filming, and warm for most of them. I was pretty fine. Hey, I fursuit in the tropics! This was nothing much to me!
The dragon crowd did manage to bunch together initially, but got spread out as the parade went on. I at least got into the group with Drekian, Grael & the ‘Canadian Dragons’. They’re trying to convert me, seriously! :p
At the end of the parade, I went into the door first and got some nice videos of a whole crowd of exhausted fursuiters running for the rooms or the headless lounge.
Headed there myself, checking the dance comp list. I didn’t make the finals, so I’ll try again next convention. It’s a pretty steep pathway for me to try to catch up with those dancers way ahead. Someday, I’ll make it in.
Realized I’d lost a toe claw, ran around trying to find it, without any success.
I went to watch the dance competition, and barely got in before they started turning people away at the door for ‘the room is overcapacity’. There were some issues with this, I hear, but I’m not really in a position to comment.
Crashed into Drekian’s transformation panel in fursuit, which was fun too.
And night raves! I really went to a lot of these!

Sun
Into Temperance’s panel again, then went with her as she did some eye surgery on my original suit head to improve the vision. Which worked very well! Just goes to show how much progress has gone by in the 2 years since she originally made mine. Cheers!
Headed on to film the fursuit games after that.
Singha & me did a fursuit swap, and very successfully pranked a whole bunch of people we knew. There’ll be a video on this later haha. It worked so well because we’re both the same size & height!
Attended the closing ceremonies, then Kijani’s PCD bowling party, and went into the Dead Dog Dance for a bit.
Damn, it was over all too soon! This has been my favourite convention yet, and I’ll be back next year.

The theme is Swords & Sorcery. That’ll be a good time to Dragon around.

DDRRRAAAGGGOOONNNNN!
