I highly recommend "Suikoden" and "Suikoden 2" for the PS1. Part 1 can be found on PSN if you have a PS3, but Part 2 is extremely rare, and isn't on PSN.

Great soundtrack, lovable characters, and an amazing story that will surprise you time and again.

If you love Fire Emblem, and make it about 80% of the way through Suikoden 2, you may actually want to restart the entire game.....

Part 2 is hard to find these days, but I recommend it to all JRPG fans.

In Part 1's favor, I can say that its soundtrack is beautifully composed, and very memorable. Being the game that originated the series, its story was greatly received by both professional reviewers and users alike.

2 great JRPGs, both from the cusp, and beginning, of the 2000's. They're family friendly, and far from "over the top". If you love Fire Emblem, you may just adore Suikoden 1 and 2.
