EDIT 2: Agh <>; I completely did not see that what I was typing was meaning what it is. I feel ashamed. I will keep the prices as they are, and not have them shift once a commission is agreed on. I was not meaning for that to be what people are reading it as. Very ashamed of myself.

EDIT: I've been told that increasing prices to cover fees is illegal, which I had no concept of prior, so it seems that the issue is settled, and commission prices will stay as they are.

I'm at a bit of an uncomfortable position here.

I've been noticing that for a while, when I've received money for commissions through PayPal, I am not receiving the full amount of the commission anymore, and that disturbingly large chunks of money were being eaten away in the process of the transaction, from $2-$20 depending on how large the payment amount was.

On checking up on the fee information with PayPal, I have found that there is a 2.9% + $0.30 USD per transaction, and for a small-time artist who needs all the money commissioners generously give, that's a fee that is hard for me to deal with.

Sadly, this also brings a problem for the commissioner as well. If I pass the fee on to the commissioner, the prices of the commissions will become disturbingly bloated, and may impact the ability for the commissioner to pay when before they may have been able to without that fee added on to the total cost. Larger commissions, which have the greatest potential for truly stunning work, are also lamed by becoming too pricey for my usual customers.

So, I am sort of at an impasse on what I will do about this. I could risk the loss of customers and up my prices to cover the fees, or... well, I'm not terribly sure what else outside of keeping it to what it is now.

At this time I really heartily remind people that I happily can accept checks and money orders, which will not remove any of that money you send to maintain a third party's business. I understand that a large amount of people can't do such, or don't have checkbooks to write checks with.

So, from now on, I will give people two quotes - one of the original commission's value, and one that includes the fees, so that they know how much they will be paying extra to cover PayPal.

I give a huge, ginormous, ecstatic hug to all of my customers, and I really cannot thank you enough for supporting my work with your hard earned money. Every single commission is a statement that you enjoy my work enough to be willing to part with money that could be used on food, bills, or other luxury items, but you choose me instead. That is a huge honor for such a person as I am.
