Past, Present, & Future Commissioners: This is Important! by thatlittlegoblin

So I realized that a large number of you might not have been following me on FA when I was active there, and even if you were may be unaware of this but

I have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to skipping/skimming.

What is skipping?

Skipping is when you get a commission from me like my Iron Artist slots, stream sketches, or other ones that basically have a "loose" payment date- I defer posting until you pay- but you never do send payment. Essentially, you "skip out" on paying in the hopes I'll post it anyways and you get free art.

Okay, so what's skimming?

Skimming is when you pay, and then contest the charges and do a "payback" through paypal. Most've you have probably heard an artist or two already complain about this very thing.

Both of these things have happened to me a couple times already and I just don't understand this sort of behavior. I offer very affordable prices and am very lenient when it comes to these kinds of things, I know how life can get in the way. Just talk to me! Let me know what's going on, and I won't blacklist you!

Woah, woah! Blacklisting? Explain please.

Er... well, see... a "blacklist" is a list of names of people who I will no longer work with. Folks who have either been abusive towards me, skipped, skimmed, or otherwise taken advantage of me to the point where I say "Nope. No more. Shoo."

Once you're blacklisted, it basically means I will never work for/do a commission for you ever again if I can help it. This also includes other people buying art for you as "gifts" or having a character you own featured. You also won't be allowed to participate in things like raffles or auctions.

WOW, that's kinda harsh don't you think?

Not really, no. See this isn't a thing I do just willy-nilly, I let folks know when they're late on payment- or when I'm behind on work. I even offer partial refunds in most cases.

This whole artist/commissioner setup is entirely based on trust. You trust me to get the work done and to be honest and truthful with you, and I trust you not to take advantage of me. When it comes to behaviors that could get you blacklisted, I even give three chances. I send out reminders, I try my best to keep in contact, and everything I can possibly do to prevent having to add another name to that list.

TL;DR: Don't be a dick, pay me on time, and we can work together.

That being said, I love you guys. You're awesome and I appreciate every single one of you and all the support you show! 〜( ̄▽ ̄〜) *gives you all inordinately long hugs, bordering on creepy*
As always, if you ever have any questions, feel free to ask me and I'll answer as best I can!

That's not unreasonable at all. Most artists collect payment up front due to this problem.

On some things I do collect payment up front! Thus the "skimming" bit added there. I've had only one person ever do a chargeback but it was really just a shitty thing to do.

      • Link

Yeah... some people just don't respect art or artists. Or other people in general. It's highly unfortunate.

  • Link

This is all perfectly reasonable stuff, and I'm sorry to hear you've had to deal with it! :<

    • Link

Yeah, I mean this is mostly common sense kinda stuff but some folks don't know I guess? Or they're just meanie mcbuttfaces.

  • Link

Don't be a dick? What if I have one? Is that cool?

Hurp, durp. Sucks that you've had to deal with people like this. Much love, Lil-lil!

    • Link

      yes that's totally fine :V

and yeah I mean it hasn't happened since I've moved to Weasyl exclusively but I just wanted folks to know, especially since there's so many new faces. You've probably heard me complain MULTIPLE TIMES about this sorta behavior hahaha s-sorry

  • Link

    This is very reasonable.

  • Link

The fact that you have to post this means that you've had to deal with this in the past, and I'm sorry that you had to. If people want to try and get art for free, they have a better chance of just asking outright instead of playing games.

Thankfully the only people I've ever blacklisted were over on FA. I just wanted my audience over here to know my stance on stuff/maybe educate them about things they might not've known, y'know? Like

      "wow, people do that?"

  • Link

    sounds mighty fair!

    • Link

The thing most folks think is unfair is like, the denial of service in regards to even other people paying for them. Or for free things like raffles and whatnot.

But I mean, why the heck would I want to put up with that kinda person at all, especially after that behavior?

  • Link

I'm not sure how anyone could rip you off and then expect to not be blacklisted? Like I'm boggled people wouldn't assume that in the first place. This is totally reasonable.

    • Link

I've gotten the "oh it was an accident" speech a couple times. And I can understand forgetting but I mean it's just like

Yeah, you accidentally didn't respond to any of my attempts to contact you. Suuuure.

  • Link

Man, that blows that you've had to go through this. I hope that in the future people can treat you with the respect that you deserve ;_; . And this is totally like something I dont' know... I know there's the artist's beware blogthinger... I haven't been around it for over six years so dunno if they do commissioner/beware of as well?

    • Link

They might yeah but I think that (in the long run) doesn't solve much of anything cause I mean

they can just make a new account and there ain't a thang anybody can do about it D:

      • Link

That is the unfortunate of it. And it's quite literally stealing- but not seeing the face of the person who is doing it. :/ man I wish good fortunes on you in this and the future.
