(Movie) Noah (2014) by Scheknul

As an Atheist, this movie makes me smile. Even if it was a complete waste of money, and time on the production company's part. None of it was accurate to how the bible described any of it. Several liberties were taken to incorporate story.

There was use of steel in the stone age. Tools had rivets. The bad guys had welding masks. The animals were self organizing.

Characters that weren't in the original story were added in for "plot." There was an elderly wizard, who was friends with golems, or "fallen angels." The golems apparently knew how to craft long, thick chains. The arc was a huge rectangle, which could have doubled as a modern day freighter in size.

God was absent during the entire film, UNLESS his will was about to be contradicted by man. The movie was 2hrs long, and I won't get that time back.

Over all, I saw a handful of famous people attempting a "biblical" story, with plot holes, and more liberties than the US government is taking with it's people.

You may have noticed that I said this movie made me smile. Well, they did a full on depiction of evolution, right smack dab in the middle of it all. The birth of the universe, how our planet was made, and the evolving animals into modern day creatures. It wasn't even shots of different animals more than a few times.

I feel as if this movie was designed to poke the "religious right," square in the eyes. Over, and over again. THAT, is what makes me smile.

I give this movie a 0.5 out of 10. It was visually pleasing, and that's all I can say about it. Anthony Hopkins played his usual, "I'm losing my mind" shtick. Russell Crowe played his "damaged hero" shtick.

Emma Watson played her "defenseless woman" shtick. Ray Winstone played his, "I'm a bad ass, and there's nothing you can do about it" shtick. Aside from that, there was a handful of other relatively famous people doing voice-overs. Mind you, the lines were limited, and The Iron Giant kept being brought to my mind, when ever they spoke.

Fortunately for me, I had enough alcohol to fuel my laughing, all the way through this atrocious attempt at "cinema." You might be saying, "but I'm a Christian. I HAVE to see this film! I'ts like, The Passion!"

Yeah, no. One mad man's view on a snuff film vs another, isn't important. Nothing about this movie is even remotely, debatable as "historically accurate" to the bible. There were SO MANY points where I had to pause, and talk to my dad (another Atheist) about how it differed from the bible.

We kept laughing at how several of the steel tools they were using, looked like they were bought from the home depot, or lowes. "Let's put some poorly woven fabric around it, and attach a stick to it." Was what a lot of it amounted to. What got me the most though, was the steel working.

The steel forging. The fine craftsmanship of metals. How, a movie that's supposed to take place in the STONE AGE, has folded metals, is simply absurd. However, I digress.

The movie was bad, and they should feel bad. However, it gave a massive shout-out to evolution, and that made the movie worth watching, even though it wasn't. If you're going to watch this movie, go do it on netflix, or borrow it from some friend that had the poor judgement to purchase it for "biblical reasons."

I will give the movie credit for 3 things. Visual effects, CGI, and brutality. Where story was lacking, it was intensely violent. Where more story was lacking, it was a gorgeous example of art.

That's all the movie was to me. An artist holding up it's middle finger to the establishment of Christianity.

In closing: Do not buy this movie. Rent it, or borrow it from a friend. It's not worth the money spent to print it onto a bluray disk, or dvd. Even if all they want is $20 for the bluray+dvd combo pack, it's not worth it. I'd rather see people spend the money on the homeless, sick, elderly, or children, (doing the true Christian thing), than buying this piece of shit example for a movie.

Ah, only had a passing interesting in seeing it before, as in a "maybe if its on one of the movie channels" passing interesting. But after reading that, I think I'll just pass all together. Thanks for saving me the after movie pains of "I want that two hours of my life back" trauma. XD

Well, it's like I said, it's visually pleasing. I mean, if you can watch it for Anthony Hopkins, Emma Watson, and Russel Crowe, then I'm sure you might enjoy it. Honestly, I never give "religious" or "biblical" films much of a thought on watching.

I'll give them a review, just so I can see what all of the hubbub is about. However, this movie just out-right failed me. I even have the ability to suspend my disbelief, in the hopes that a film will actually be good. However, it's yet another example of, "how can we fuck this up?"

So yeah, if you like the actors enough to watch it, then watch it for them. Otherwise, just ignore the fact that it was ever made in the first place.
