Independence Day Week Update: Star Wars Weekends, Program Extension, and more! by SonicHomeboy

Hey howdy hey, folks!

As always, it's been awhile. Yeah, I am really bad when it comes to updating frequently. It doesn't help when you are busy though with work and class. Anyway, now is probably a good time to do an update despite how late this is. lol I have an evening shift on Independence Day, so I'll be all right. :)

STAR WARS WEEKENDS

I got to experience my first Star Wars Weekends! =D I have to admit that it was a blast. True, it did become a bit tiresome trying to wake up early enough to catch the motorcades in the mid-mornings, but the experience overall was well worth it. I did take plenty of pictures and video of it though. So if you happen to have me as a friend on Facebook, be on the look out when I do post those pictures. As for the video, it'll be awhile before I upload them onto my YouTube channel.

Most of you know how much of a Star Wars fan I am. :) Just being a part of it made me so alive as I got a chance to do character meet-and-greets with a few characters from the Star Wars universe including Disney's own Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy as Star Wars characters. What was really cool was how I was able to talk to Luke Skywalker (the character, not the actor Mark Hamill) and just talk about things as if I were a part of that universe. So I'm hoping that next year I get to participate if I do stick around working at Hollywood Studios.

What really made the experience worth while was being able to see Star Wars celebrities from a distance during the motorcades such as Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Ray Park (Darth Maul), James Arnold Taylor (voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi of The Clone Wars series), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), and Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker). My takeaway from the whole Star Wars Weekends was pin trading with Ray Park's daughter when he and his family got off of the Toy Story Midway Mania ride. That's something I will never forget for as long as I live. :)

PROGRAM EXTENSION

Just as this title says, I am happy to report that I've extended my college program through the beginning of January! :D I admit that I've enjoyed my time here so far despite some things that have happened to me since I've started working at Walt Disney World. So if you guys do decide to come by, hit me up! I'm always up for meeting people I've known online. Speaking of, koof their family will be staying at one of the resorts for a week this month! So I'll be very excited to meet them. ^^ Going into that weekend, I plan to hit Megaplex for the first time! Even though I didn't make it for Morphicon, it'll be nice to go to a furry con this year. lol

OTHER THINGS

Outside of what I've just reported, I've managed to get back into playing some video games thanks to the recent summer sales that Steam and GOG.com have had. So it's been a mixture of Hotline Miami, Game Dev Tycoon, Borderlands 2 and Final Fantasy VI Advance. As always it's just a matter of making time to play all these games. lol

Thanks to Star Wars Weekends I did recently purchase a Star Wars book that was recommended by a friend. It's called Heir to the Empire, and it's a part of the Thrawn trilogy. So far, the book has some short chapters, and it's a quick read compared to reading Stephen King's The Stand. Speaking of which, I am probably a two-thirds of the way through the book. Once I finish it, that may be the only Stephen King book I'll ever read. It's a good book for the most part, and I can see why many readers enjoy his writing. For me, I think he just goes on and on about things that I think don't really add much to the story, but I'm still chugging along in hopes of finishing it. My goal is to finish it before the purchase day a year ago in September. Once that book is done, I plan to finish up World War Z before jumping into The Road while working through Heir to the Empire. Now that I think about it, I do have that Bioshock book I need to continue reading...

I did go out to the movies to see Godzilla. I must say that it makes the 1998 movie non-existent. lol Even though it was a very good movie, I would like to have seen more action scenes and just a bit more of Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad). Otherwise, I highly recommend watching it if you guys already haven't. Other movies that are out I would like to see are X-Men: Days of Future Past and How To Train Your Dragon 2. There is one documentary that will be release in select theatres is Life Itself which focuses on the late film critic, Roger Ebert. This trailer makes it all the more reason for me to see it.

Life Itself Trailer

It's unfortunate that the theatre here won't be showing it. I know I'll get to see it even if it means waiting for the movie to come on DVD. lol

As for drawing, the motivation comes and goes. I miss drawing... I really need to get back into it more often or else I fear that I'll lose my touch on drawing in general. ^^; What really kills me is just how much I focus over the littlest of things when drawing. I should learn to make more mistakes and draw lightly. I've been told that it helps to look up references, and it's time that I do so if I want to get my anatomy and proportions to look well on the sketch page. So, we shall see what will come from it if I decide to go that route.

Hmm... 3:47 am as of this typing. Well, I think this is a good time for me to stop right here and wish my fellow Americans a great Independence Day weekend. :) Any of you guys doing anything special?

Anyway, I hope you guys are doing well, and I thank you all for taking the time to read what I have to post. :)

Take care and I'll catch you all next time!
