(dancing) fursuit species: help? by Jive

I swear I'm going to attempt to be more active here. My life has been so hectic, but I recently started getting back into dancing/choreography... been practicing a lot, and I'm pretty pleased with my progress. But the problem is that I'm too anxious to dance in front of others without a mask on. Because I am a whiny nervous baby.

So I'm going to make a fursuit specifically for dancing in. Sturdy/flexible, good ventilation/vision, maybe a half suit with very comfortable feet (or maybe some of those toony looking shoes).
Question is, what species do I want to make? I'd like to make a new character instead of one of my existing ones... and I'd like something you don't see all that often (in dance comps at least), but that is easily recognizable even to non-furry folks. If it's a wild animal, I'd also like it to be something I see often where I live, just because I've got an affinity for local animals.

What I've been considering so far:
domestic cat, but a rarely seen breed... maybe based on a somali or japanese bobtail? Or a nebelung.
coyote
grey fox
opossum
skunk
raccoon
bobcat

I'm open to more suggestions, too, I just can't seem to settle on a species. Ideas/suggestions?

More important journal entries soon, I think. I've been getting back into writing my thoughts about various social/political issues, and I should probably post more here...

Bobcat or japanese bobtail would be cool to see!

      I do love little stubtails...

Yeah, especially if you can make them so they bob around a little bit, still cute and it doesn't get in the way much at all.

    It would be amazing seeing one more "uncommon" species. Like an aardvark or tree kangaroo ;3;

I enjoy making and suiting in uncommon species, but I definitely want this one to be obvious to non-animal-fanatics and children, because I want to wear it out to events that aren't furry-specific.
Aardvark sounds like a hell of a challenge, though... maybe someday.

A somali would be neat! But I've got a longstanding soft spot for the breed, so may be a little biased there. I haven't seen too many domestic cats in general, though.

A bobtail would also be really neat visually, but you also lose all the tail action that sometimes comes into play in the routine. Not sure if that'd be any concern or not!

I think a bobtail cat would be really cute! I also like the idea of a raccoon, I haven't seen too many raccoon suits now that I think about it, and I think the stripey tail would look nice uvu

Then a bobtail would be rather neat uvu I'm actually working on a suit for myself atm, and it's my fursona whom is a Sphynx. c:

i totally vote for the bobtail<3

    voting bobtail or bobcat

if you're a lizard or a bird you could make a simple 4-panel mask thing! was thinking about doing that for my own suit ...

i'm a little late to this but oh gosh opossums are sooo great, they make such great characters hnnnngh I also think raccoons and skunks are animals that are really easy to recognize for non-furry folks. Though, all of those have somewhat large tails and it might be less of a hassle to dance in a bobcat/bob-tailed cat suit since you wouldn't have to worry as much about the tail :O
