Celestina is not an elf by JamesAlesto

So yeah, I get this a lot because of her pointy ears.

Celestina isn't an elf. She's my custom species known as Annonian. Folks from the planet Annos.

Her people are heavy magic users, and their wings are real but not at the same time. They can disappear when not in use, but can still be injured when they're out.

Annonians are a hybrid species and crossed between my characters' Aire and Taasla's people the Wadran:

and a species I've yet to draw called the Madrai.

Celestina's people gain the ability to fly through the Wardran, and their magic abilities and long life through the Madrai. Annonians live their lives in 200-ish year stints before they turn to ash and return like a phoenix. These cycles can repeat numerous times until the magic that makes an Annonian live runs out and they just don't come back. Additionally, killing an Annonian when they are unaware can also prevent them from rising back.

When they rise back up they are without their memories, so an Annonian with Memory Giving abilities have to restore them. Not all Annonians can do this, so the ability is praised. The opposite is Memory Taking, but the ability is policed heavily for obvious reasons. Conversely, the ability to give false memories is considered an abomination, and children who can do so are culled. This ability only runs in males. Females with the same genetic markers for such just come up as being blank of any abilities.

The only part of an Annonian that doesn't turn to ash is their feathers. They exchange earrings made of feathers during their weddings to represent eternity. They mate for life, and can form deep mental bonds with their mate. If one mate dies, the other may very well go into cardiac arrest. If one survives their mate dying, the end result is a mental "void" that can prevent them from bonding with anyone else permanently.

Due to the fact that they're hybrids, birth rates amongst Annonians are really low. Annonian x Annonian couples usually have to try for many years before they can get a child. Annonian x Other Humanoid species gets much higher birth rates. Children are considered precious, and the status of a family can be increased if they manage to have numerous children.

Celestina was born before her planet was invaded by humanoids. They found out that Annonian ash and feathers make great power source enhancements. She and her people were hunted to near extinction.

Celestina currently lives on a space pirate ship as a cook in exchange for protection because she got separated from her people after she ashed without a Memory Giver on site. In fact, one of the last ones is MIA but she doesn't know that.

So that's Celestina.

Not.

People will often times see something that looks like something they know and will assume it to be that. :v Like I've had a lot of people call my character Rêve a demon/dragon/manticore because of certain features. It's a matter off perception and understanding xD

Also pretty awesome backgroud story, and an interesting concept about the bonded pairs dying with each other or becoming void... I actually have an extremely similar concept in one of the books I am writing. They bond spiritually, actually allowing their souls to leave their body and merge. I one of them dies, the other either simply disappears like a puff of smoke or becomes what is called a "severed seeker" and is basically an emotionless husk that will do horrible things trying to find the other half of it's soul. :x

Not sure why I felt it necessary to explain that xD. I guess I just think it is really cool that someone else had a similar concept :3

Yeup I put it in there because birds mating for life is one of my favorite concepts. Birds are my favorite critters, so this species is based heavily around them/ they consider birds sacred.

And wooo thought twins! :D Soul merging actually sounds pretty badass.

    GOD I feel your pain.

I've had people call Kas a Shark, MerMAID (he's a merMAN dammit), and any other fish that isn't a koi.
Sacch has been called anything but an alien- she's usually mistaken for an anthropomorphic creature (bear and tapir seem to be the most common and I have no clue why).

    It's like "omg stahp"
