Watched any good movies lately? by Rooc

I actually don't watch TV all that often - if anything I turn it on for the birds and do my own thing on the computer. But today seems to be a rather good movie day haha. So tell me about whatever movies you've watched recently that you liked!

Battle for Terra was on today and oh gosh that movie is just so good. I was trying to find the name of another movie (Kaena: The Prophecy which I also adore) when I came across movie stills of the aliens and just today it was on - and I really, really enjoyed it. It's definitely worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

Currently I'm watching For Colored Girls and gosh so many feels right now. This movie just touches on so many things and these women are so dang talented! Whoopi especially - she can play so many different roles, I am mad jealous. Though I still adore her best in The Color Purple though (I could watch that movie a thousand times, and I may have actually haha).

We did go see Oculus last weekend though and it was pretty ok. I won't spoil anything if I can but the ending was kinda flat - but other than that I really enjoyed watching it! I like that they played on the whole mirror-tricks thing and I loved the flashbacks detailing everything that happened before.

Definitely gonna go see Transcendence and maaybe The Quiet Ones 'cuz my sister wants to see it (she's either going to class or working constantly so I try to take her out as often as I can). I'm really looking forward to Godzilla, HTTYD 2, and Amazing Spiderman 2 of course haha.

Watched any good movies lately?

Not exactly a movie, but I have been rewatching the Fist of the North Star anime series.

Is it any good? What's it about? c:

It's amazing for its time, it's set in a Mad Max style post apocalyptic future with a guy punching bandits until they explode from the inside out. :P

Saw Rio 2 a few nights ago with my sister in theaters, and that was awesome. I loved the music in it, just as good as the first movie, i'd say.
I just watched "Monsters University" lastnight, and it was adorable, better than i expected >w<
Also watched "The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug", and that exceeded expectations. Per usual with a LotR movie though it's almost 3 hours long lol
Saw "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2" as well, but eh.. it wasn't as good as the first, sadly :c
"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" was amazing
aaaaand last but not least, i saw "Ender's Game", and HOLY CRAP that movie was spectacular! D:

As far as movies that are coming out soonish/are out now
"Godzilla"!!! I fully intend to see it in Imax 3D, and HOPEFULLY with those moving theater seats! XD
I'm also looking forward to seeing "Transcendence", "The Amazing Spiderman 2" and "HTTYD 2"

I definitely second Monsters University - I was skeptical 'cuz the first one was awesome, but they really pulled the second one off haha. A shame to hear that Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 wasn't on par with the first ):

I really need to see Ender's Game though, it does look pretty interesting! And yes, I can't wait for those movies to come out xD Especially HTTYD 2 - I mean, so much is happening! D:

Yeah D: there's a lot of movies coming out this year. OH! And i almost forgot about Guardians of the Galaxy! The trailer for it makes the movie look so much fun X3

Ah geez I forgot about that one! I so want to see it D: The raccoon and tree-guy are adorable.

          • Link

haha, yeah. Rocket and Groot are already my favorites!
Did you know Groot (the tree guy) is played by Vin Diesel!? o3o

Not to mention, next year Jurassic Park 4 is FINALLY supposed to be released!

                • Link

Oh yeah I forgot about those too! xD I'm especially excited for Tranformers and Apes ;u; It seems this year is gonna be a good movie year!

                  • Link

Yis! :3 I'm looking forward too it

I just watched Plague Dogs for the first time recently. It's on Youtube and I'd recommend it if you haven't seen it (I feel like the last person ever to see it though tbh). It was one of those "I need to watch but always forget to" movies

    • Link

Oh I agree! I've watched it a dozen times and I wish there were more movies like it (Animal Farm, Felidae, and Watership Down are also awesome ones along those types of movies).

We recently went to the theater and saw The Grand Budapest Hotel, and it was fantastic. It's directed by Wes Anderson (also the director of Fantastic Mr. Fox and Moonrise Kingdom, which are wonderful movies as well!) Might be one of my favorite movies! I don't know what kind of movies you are into, but this centers around the story of a hotel concierge and that may sound kind of boring-slash-ridiculous, but it is really very excellent, and quite funny as well.

    • Link

I totally forgot about that one! I really want to see that haha it looks like such a fun movie. I love his other movies as well c: I'm into a lot of different movies actually and am always on the lookout for more haha.

Hmm not sure what kinda genre you like?
Seems like you might like scary movies? I LOVED "Mama" .....if you haven't see that- and "Cabin in the Woods" was AMAZING.
Tucker and Dale vs Evil was HILARIOUS to me...

For non-scary movies I haven't seen anything that stands out in a long time (aside from Hobbit stuffs)...::thinks::...
I'm just looking forward to seeing How to train your dragon 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Captain America...

    • Link

I adored Mama as well! I loved the ending ;u; Some people seemed to hate the ending but I thought it was more..realistic I guess? And Cabin in the Woods was one of those movies where I disliked it at first until I watched it two or three more times - then I guess I figured out what it meant xD I have to get the DVD of it haha.

I haven't been too big on the superhero trend lately other than Spiderman and Guardians of the Galaxy - I'm a huge fan of the Christopher Reeve Superman, and I have so little interest in Thor/Captain America/Iron Man/all the new X-Men movies unfortunately ):

But I like all genres of movies so no worries c:

        I LOVED MAMA!!
I have little debates with my friends about that ending. I like to pretend that Mama was --
( SPOILER FOR OTHER PEEPS STOP READING IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE!)
        --anyway, where was I.
OH! That the mama person was really possessed/taken over by some kinda of fae or nature spirit-nymph thing and that when she took the sister-it wasn't sad at all!
She was being brought into the fae family of the woods officially! ( which I think the whole butterfly/moth was a good hint at my theory) and.. yeah! :)
        I just loved it!

Cabin in the woods was funny because at first I hated it (while I was watching it!) I found the people orchestrating everything to be absolutely evil and I kept hating it until...
It went to chaos and I suddenly LOVED the movie. Weird experience, that! :D

Not everyone likes the super-hero stuff, that's totally cool, I understand!

Golden Compass? I loved golden compass :D

I don't watch TV at all - haven't for over 10 years now. I refuse to be subjected to commercials and pay a cable company to offer me TV that contains commercials. :P

Most recent films I've watched were Thor II, and Despicable Me II (bought the DVDs) - both were really good.

    • Link

I haven't seen Despicable Me II yet but it looks adorable haha.

But I hear ya on the television - when I do watch TV I only like a handful of commercials, so why pay for all the hundreds of crap channels yanno.

      • Link

I can watch pretty much anything I want on-line for free, and if I really like a series, I'll by it on DVD. Added one more movie to the list last night - the second Hobbit movie. Not bad (Smaug is goddamn sexy), but you can really tell that Jackson is taking a lot of liberties to stretch out a short kids story into three long movies.

Legion...possessed grandma lady was messssed up!

    • Link

Haha I've heard so many mixed reviews on that movie - it really seems like a love it/hate it type of movie.
