FE 2014: a con report by rkniner

Well, now that I've had a few days of PCE (post-con euphoria) to settle down after a weekend of fuzz, it's time to take the whole thing back in and review FE once again:

Last year's con was an awesome experience, with the dance party outside the official parade photo shoot on Saturday being a rather unique, amazing unplanned experience.

I was wondering how this year's edition would live up to that; you can thank kakurady for finding a way to exceed it. And here I thought it was going to be an off year for my personal experience...

Friday

Unlike previous years, I arrived at the con Friday morning shortly after 10 am to get registered, settle into the con space, and drop off my board game.

With last year's morning opening ceremonies, I figured it would be a good change to make, and it was; I got to watch the opening sketch without waiting for the Youtube version a few weeks later. It was well done and opened the con on a good note.

To pass time over the afternoon, I decided to check out the GoH and photography panels, take in some of the dance competition prelims, and eventually wound up in the Improv, which was similarly hilarious to last year's edition.

Between events I snacked in the sponsors' lounge and socialized before spending the evening nomming hotdogs, cotton candy, and playing a game of Ticket to Ride. After that, it was time to head home.

Saturday

Okay, let's get this out of the way: easily, Saturday was the best day of the con. And why wouldn't it be?:

I got in once again at 10, and after picking up my tripod and snapping a few pics, went to baileybat and yukiyuzika's wedding. It was a cool experience and great to see them tying the knot.

Following the wedding, my next stop was the fursuit games (after lunch and more socializing of course), which was, as always, fun to watch. Interestingly, it was the first time flowkitty flowkitty's team won. After attending her panel on prop use shortly after, it was time to prepare for the parade.

The photo shoot was more organised this year, so there was no impromptu party. As a result, the parade actually started early (imagine that). 265 fursuiters and many photos later, I eventually chilled with some card games, and walking around the dealer's den, before waiting for the Masquerade.

The event started late, and for some reason only opened its doors to non-performers as the show began. A bit disorganized in its inaugural year, but probably solvable next year onward. At least the show was entertaining after that early glitch, and had its fun and funny moments as the evening continued.

C. P. Rrrrrrr... :P

After the masquerade, it was time to line up for the sponsors' free pizza. While waiting in line, kakurady suddenly puts his head on me... The rest of the evening was that much more awesome.

It came off once it was time to get food, but afterwards he let me wear the entire partial (head, arms, paws, feet and tail) all over the con space to confuse everyone.

So you could say the pizza made me TF into a shiba inu...

Once 9:30 came up and I briefly wound up in the dance, it was time to return to my mundane self and head home to sleep for Sunday...

Sunday

After grabbing breakfast shortly after 10, I made my way to the fursuit dance competition finals. Apparently, there were now 26 finalists compared to last year's 9, and a packed ballroom. The atmosphere was incredible and everyone seemed on their game/into the show. Despite running half an hour long, I did not regret staying through the entire thing (and somehow managed to get loads of decent pics without my tripod).

Following chicken fingers for lunch, I watched the charity auction before walking around to fill up the last of my camera's CF card space with furs wearing the cone of shame. By the time closing ceremonies came around, that mission was accomplished.

Closing ceremonies was loud. The announced attendance of 910 resulted in cheers and "it's over nine HUNDRED" shouts everywhere. And that was before next year's theme was announced in video format.

I think I went partially deaf when the Mega Man 2 title screen popped up on the screen, shortly after a modified arcade cabinet turned on. 373 days to go . . . I'm psyched up for it.

Can it be FE2015 yet?
