Data corruption by Tiido

So yesterday my laptop ran outta batteries and turned off...
I turn it back on... bam windows no longer boots.
I take the CF card out, stick it into a memory card reader aaaand...

"holy shit, data partition in gone, and windows partition is full of crap"

Scandisking saved the Windows partition, I found no damaged files or anything and could copy out Skype profile and some other more important things.

But the data partition is not that lucky, after a while I got it all nicely visible and files accessible.... but all files that were recently accessed are fucked, including my main IM program profile and some music I worked on aswell as actual work stuff... and of course no really recent backups of those were made...

Final assessment :

  • I lost about 1 month of chat logs (bad)
  • I lost my most recent work (very bad)
  • I lost my most recent music (very bad)
  • I lost some most recently downloaded files (whatever)
  • I will have to RMA the CF card, it seems to have physical damage, all tools keep saying unreadable sector and exhibit slowness in certain area...

    Sorry to hear, Tiido. :( I certainly hope you can at least reinstall your music software cleanly.

      Installing software and such is no pain - I'll copy over a backup with all the software installed and set up to my liking, very convenient. Rest is just getting the projects and things imported if needed. I will only really miss the lost files, those set me back couple days.

      Melodies are a small part... there's the instrumentation, mixing and bunch of other aspects that I have to redo, but maybe it will be for the better haha. New times, new ideas, and bossibly better ones !
