Musings #1 - the 'Falklands Situation' by Deviantmarshal

You should know it by now, i've gone on about it enough times. xD

If not, then google it.

But, what I've been musing about is (god forbid) should Argentina actually get sovreignty over the Falklands... then what?

The whole idea of the situation is to draw attention away from the problems and debts the government has had for a long time now, the more in debt and problematic, the more they shout at us. But what would happen if they couldn't use the Falklands as an excuse anymore?
Think about it..
They're hurling vast sums of money they don't have, at a situation that isn't going to benefit them without further huge sums of investment, which in turn they still don't have. Once they can't shout at their own colonial desires then they'll be forced to take responsibility for the mess the Argentine economy is in. I've spoken to a few people who either live there, or have visited recently, and the story in general is pretty nasty. :P

So, why does the situation exist in the first place?
Well, only really because its a distraction. In 1982 is was a distraction from the fact that no-one liked the government, nowadays its a distraction from the fact the government is severely in debt.
The biggest issue with the governments attempts at pushing their case forward is that everything they've said is nothing but rubbish, and can be proven untrue 100% of the time! Which in turn leads to the question, if they're getting so much more despirate, then why aren't they proving anything they claim? Can they even do that? Well, no, they can't, which is why they don't, and why they resort to political and economic bullying to get their way. Idk if I said this before, but a few months ago the Gov' banned ALL ships going to the Falklands from passing through Argentina, only to find pretty much all said ships bypassed the country altogether, taking huge sums of money from all the coastal cities that would've benefitted from a good tourist vessel.

Most recently there's been a document (or large wad of-) giving the best set out reasons for the situation to be quashed permanently. I'll have to find a link but its brilliant reading, it disproves EVERYTHING the Argentine government has said about the situation.

One bit that caught my eye is about the Church at the time of the Spaniards settlement of south america. When the spaniards colonised said continent, the church stated they could settle the south-atlantic as well. THis was then retracted almost imediately as a mistake!!!
Another thing came up that suprised me, around the 17-1800's there were actualy argentine families living on the Islands. HOWEVER (and these are points you need to consider) At the time there was no government of the Islands, the argentine people there were just there, not claiming the land or anything. When Britain settled the Islands, they didn't "Violently expell" anyone, according to this paper (and other sources) the brittish stated that those who wanted to stay could stay, those who didn't could leave of their own accord. So they did.

Its inevitable that all this will be pushed aside by the government, mainly because its inconvenient to have everything you've been fighting for ever since your very founding days reduced to utter b*****ks by about 4 gramms of paper. XD

This is just my musings on the stuation, at the end of the day its wierd to think that we still have such stupid situations in the 21st century.
