There is more going on with my mother, but it's a long and really unpleasant story. She has always been obsessed with being right, even when she has to ignore the facts to prove her point. She did that to my father for 18 years before he finally stood up for himself and she divorced him.

Well, people also keep changing and maturing over time (not necessarily with the age), give them time.

Mothers are mothers and their reactions to the son´s are more angry force of nature. But your mother does not cease to be someone else for the generation and the root of your aunt and in bottom (although it shut to inside) so very probably think like your aunt.
