Boxes are Stupidly Exciting by struguri

I've been drawing a whole lot this weekend. I've been on a huge deconstruction kick as of late, since I've discovered some of the key pieces I've been needing to do transforms on lines and whatnot. And there's something that's sort of irritated me throughout this whole process. I suppose it's the very reason I've gone on this journey in the first place.

One of the things that's sort of frustrated me whenever I've read lessons or received lessons from folk on how to draw isn't really in how much detail there is to remember or in how many rules there are to recall, but rather that a lot of my "why"s are never really answered-- or, if they are, it's with "you'll figure it out." Either folks aren't sure how to explain it or have no idea themselves how they perform the particulars.

I've been flipping through my current sketchbook and been ridiculously amused at what I've been drawing. Boxes. Boxes in perspective. Arcs and lines delineating the required foreshortening of a given line. Just all sorts of stuff determining how to twist things around in proportion to one another. It's pretty fascinating how one line can give you so much information.

I've got an idea for a silly little comic that will go through all these things I've learned along the way. Drawing actually seems to involve reverse-engineering for me. A single line can eventually lead me to a vanishing point, which can eventually lead me to a horizon, which in turn can lead me to any other vanishing points. Indeed, some lines can actually infer other types of lines by various geometric properties. It's so incredibly fascinating to me, doing these calculations.

I've been drawing boxes in three-point perspective. They're very good boxes. They are proportional and proper boxes. And I am very proud of them. Maybe I will name them. Maybe I will train them. Who knows. These boxes have no limits!... well except for the fact that they're bound in the third dimension, but that's beside the point.
