YCH Commissions? by AdriOfTheDead

I was thinking of posting a YCH auction commission here, since I'm no longer using FA... I was curious to know how well they do here? I don't see people advertising for them on Weasyl.

If it doesn't end up working out I might take a different approach on a site where there's more visibility.

If you're doing it as an auction and worried about the visibility, just make the starting bid higher than an auction normally would be?

Praytell what kind of theme you goin' with for this one? Have the basework done already, or still thinking of things? :3

Well, I've already got the base sketch. I've had it for a while and was planning on using it as a valentine's day YCH thing but I forgot lol
I'm worried that with the amount of people on weasyl vs FA that it won't be nearly as visible or I won't get as many bids or any bids at all.

if it turns out to not be a good idea then I might do it as a raffle instead of an auction

Would a raffle really be any better, if potential interest is a concern?

Hm.. maybe if you hosted the auction/raffle deciding via a larger place and advertised it with a quick post on everything. Like "Be in this chat room or whatever at X time and date if you want to bid" and then get the paypal stuff out of the way right then and there?

I suppose, but I kind of want to give people time to bid on it if they wanted to. With a raffle i'd just advertise a fully rendered commission and people could throw in a few dollars if they wanted a chance to win it.

If you're asking about interest in YCHs, that's something I often tend to take up as a Customer.
My preference is for a Flat-Rate and pick your slot (One YCH I did I got multiple slots and let the artist deal with the collage of characters) Rationalizing the Price can be anywhere from what you deem as Low (For already having a starting sketch it doesn't take as much work as figuring out a custom pose for a specific client) to High (Gotta get food on your plate)

Auctions don't tend to interest me either for the diminishing returns as the price is moved a dollar or so five higher, or that it breeds this sense of hostility, or that at an eventual cut off point it's just better to go to an another artist and buy what I want.

Raffles are commonly criticized as a financial scam (and spam; or satirized), but I do remember an Artist did a raffle system except they tied it with the Iron Artist. So you bought a Raffle and the Artist rolled a die to find out who they're going to draw first so everyone got art, just the biggest complaint was "When is it my turn?" rather than a mob of people making journals over how buying a dozen tickets each didn't help them win and feeling bitter for it.

Well, I've only done one YCH and that was through FA. I did it through a tiered auction; the higher the bids, the more finished the final piece would be. I wasn't expecting to make a lot but ended up making $100. Plus I had the sketch laid out from the get-go so it was pretty easy for me to complete it quickly without having to fuss over posing and composition

But I was asking about interest in YCH commissions through Weasyl specifically, not in general.

Tiered auctions have the same problem as above and a little more, but given I don't use FA I can really only get YCHs on Tumblr and here.

I hadn't thought of doing YCH commissions through Tumblr since I figured it'd end up getting a little convoluted, given how Tumblr's commenting/reblog system works haha

I considered maybe having the auction on a third-party site where people can just comment with their bids without actually having to sign up for anything... but I don't know. I'm still weighing my options.
