On sports and sports-like activities. by AppleGravy

For whatever reason, I've entitled this journal entry as an essay of the 1500s, but shush, it's how I'm doing things.
Turns out, I play hockey like a good Canadian ferret. I'm not claiming to be remotely good at it, but I skate my tail off and do my best. And yes, it is fun. I like hockey. It's an intense game that you can have a great time with if you're not obsessed with winning. It kind of brings me to my soccer days, which yes I played for 11 years like a good non-American. I know how you Americans think soccer's just the European trash's sport, but it turns out that the entire world likes playing it, you silly, ignorant blobs~ I never had the endurance to play soccer incredibly well, even though I had a good foot and some okay ball skills. However, I was fast. I could sprint like nobody's business, and there were points at which I, as a defender, got a hold of the ball near our goal and took it all the way to theirs. And then, I would fall over because I had quite literally run out of energy. But it was a great rush, and it got me out and socializing, and it got me to making sure I had another interesting skill.
I'd recommend a sport to anyone who spends a lot of time indoors. It really can help keep you in shape, just as it gets you moving in a place other than your home and it makes sure that you're interacting with other people in some form. Curling is the exception. Specifically, because there isn't as much action and there tends to be a lot of beer drinking after games. And before games. And in the past, during games. And I keep thinking that I'll get to some profound point, but then I think of something else and wander off. So I'll just leave it at this. If you want a profound point in life, find as many stimuli as possible. One of them ought to do it for you. Or they'll kill you. Either way, you've changed something!
