Packrat is now LIVE! by Mix

I've officially revamped/retooled the database and shed its previous name; it is now known as Packrat!

In addition to a spanking new About/FAQ page, I've done my best to give it a more independent identity and purpose- while it was originally created in response to the goings-on on FA, I've been wanting to make it a permanent resource and cater to people overall.

We're definitely open for submissions, so don't hesitate to send your info in! Spreading the word and showing people is also something you can do to help! I'm probably going to be adding another mod here soon, to help me out with what I've got so far (and also to ensure people's entries get posted regularly; the queue right now refuses to cooperate with me, hah)

    I did notice the rebrand as some people were struggling for exposure. It is really nice and I think it's pretty good move given I think this makes it ... less reactionary (at least as far as 'FA Exodeus' went?) And more of a long-term project that stands by itself. Besides having a Rodent Mascot with a Sci-fi spin (Suitable and appropriate for a Database; also I'm clearly biased for my love of all things mousy.) it's also Site agnostic given numerous entries I've seen so far make use of email so it really does nail that function gap.

    While I'm nostalgic for blogrolls and everyone making a customized wordpress we can connect through like this wild, furry diaspora we aren't all programmers and coders, which makes Packrat an elegant and egalitarian solution. Also URL is easier to remember and spell. (If anyone picked up I don't know how to spell Exodeus... )

      Haha yeah like I mean while it was initially in response to all that went on it took off faster than I expected and I feel a more long-term/permanent focus/design will ultimately benefit in the long run (AND also means people who aren't even connected to FA won't be left confused or w/e)

      And yeah like I mean I'll take literally any site/username/whatever people give me even if its stuff like Blogger or LiveJournal or w/e

      I've actually considered making this an actual website database as opposed to just a little tumblr database, but I'm not gonna consider it for serious until I have the ability to put resources into it (I've already had multiple people offer to help with setting up) and if enough people take an interest (we have nearly 400 followers, which is both a lot and yet at the same time....not, comparatively)

        I don't think I follow it but I have bookmarked it. I think having your own domain can really grant you more control over it as well as other benefits, I've heard rumours about Tumblr and their staff but I'm not sure how substantial they are (Still not as bad as what I know of FA though) I tend to make tumblrs just for having a bloggable notebook I can share (instead of dropbox) but if other people want to help with Packrat it's something I'd like to get into as well: Actually I've been assembling a collection of links on Computer Coding/IT-related links (ie. http://vivianrex.tumblr.com/post/75232366612/computer-related-help-list ) given I no longer have FA as a Time-sink I've been far more productive.

          Yeah, but right now my real-life situation really doesn't allow me much luxury for personal things (part of why my art has literally been nonexistant for months) so I can't consider anything as massive as that until I can move out of here.

          I personally use Tumblr as my main social media hub (as it's also where I have a more solid fanbase; hoping to get some focus back with Weasyl tho!) but I do want to help Packrat appeal to people who don't have a Tumblr- so its not a case of 'ew, a Tumblr blog' but rather 'hey, a neat resource!' SOOOO who knows lol
