Weasyl, Why Weasyl & Grammies by The Incredible G

Well, I'm on Weasyl now! I got curious after seeing it & thought I'd join. The new character section is pretty nice... And as a web developer, I approve of it's clean lines & minimalistic design. Plus file submissions based upon file sizes, not image sizes. Updated HTML code, responsive A.K.A. mobile ready, on & on. It doesn't mean I'll be leaving Fur Affinity... I have room enough for two websites in my heart, which brings me to my next topic...

I decided to try out Weasyl because of how popular I heard it's getting, not because of the drama at Fur Affinity. Heh, I don't even know what all that was about! I prefer not to cause, get dragged into or talk much about all that because it just isn't plain nice to do so on FA's part of on Weasyl's part. Now that we have gotten THAT out of the way, we can talk something interesting.

The Grammies were on tonight. I didn't catch it all, but I managed to catch the performance of Metallica & that famous pianist that played with them on stage. I was impressed when I heard the list of people who performed this time. However, I immediately realised that 90% were practically older artists. Imagine Dragons were practically the only new artists on the block. This reinforces the fact that sales of new artists for the last 8 years has tanked badly. That includes on line sales. There has been little to no originality in music save for a couple genres (electronic, rock) in the last decade. It's all the same. Everybody is trying to sound like Mariah Carey or Kanye West. Unfortunately those artist are not exactly everyone's favourites to begin with. I honestly think the industry has it wrong on what's popular.

All those artists on the stage are original, save for Imagine Dragons. They lit up the world of music. They made it beautiful, subversive, wild, free. Music you could escape to. Music that would set you free from life's hardships. It carried the generations before us, it carried the one I'm in. I miss it. It brought forth the truest forms of humanity. I hope that feeling comes back, because the generations that are growing up after mine could use it.
