Still wanna use weasyl? by M-ree

... I am not sure I do.

Two reasons. One. While the ticketing for bugs/features is really a good thing... It only started on January 19th 2014 -- in other words, when the mess on FA started. A site that only gets a reason to improve when they get an influx of users for unrelated reasons... Right. And the way they handle these feature requests is... At best sloppy and inconsistent. Which makes me doubt their admin/mod team will be ANY better than FA has.

Second. Quoting Weasyl admin on security: "While Weasyl may not currently be in a position where its users are a target for account hijacks, when it exits beta - and particularly where premium features are paid". Thank you. That was main reason I closed my dA account almost a decade ago. I know where that road goes.

Still wanna use weasyl?

Still like it. Staff has been really fast to help me out when I needed it. Got my name change in all of 3 minutes

      goddamn it doublepost

/nods/ Maybe these things, yes, but the way they handle feature requests/bug reports sure needs to be improved. A total killer for me, though, is the paysite mode. Saw too many of those and I would rather stay away from the communities they breed.

Gonna try SoFurry, I think. Features are not THAT important...

Personally, though, I've yet to see anything of the current features as a non-premium account that make me disapointed to even use a regular account rather than a regular one. As it stands, I don't even know what a premium account brings right now nor I have seen many making a fuss about regular accounts yet having too little features or premiums too many in comparison.
I mean, I still already have folders and folders options. I still have search tags filtering. I still can browse for -journals- to see what people says on the site as a whole rather than just my watch list, something I've never seen elsewhere even on Deviantart(but then I rarely go there anymore). And I'm not talking about the design and usefulness of the status page such as when there was a DDOS attack on the site a while back and it was very nicely and rapidly documented in near real time one post after another until the attack was resolved in a matter of hours.

Regarding bug/feature report I guess it has less to do with "reacting only to influx of users" more than there weren't users to think of making requests in those directions before these influx. As in general the crew are indeed -very- open to suggestions or answering questions(especially on their twitters), which responsiveness is often in fact one of the site's current strong point So I figure it was less of a "wouldn't bother to add it unless asked" and more a case of "Hey, we didn't think of that. That's a great suggestion" which in my opinion just show again one of their strong point in how responsive they are to people and how fast they can implement their suggestions.

I dont understand what you mean. Almost everyone has a gold service these days for paid members. it just helps fund the site. And anyway if you dont like it no one's making you use it. The whole site's pretty lovely without it IMHO

Hopefully, won't cause the community become elitist split as on most sites having that. I would really rather have it have funding options which feed back -- like, support for commissions (even if will include some charge) like Artists'n'Clients, or for auctions, etc.

            • Link

It might be me, but Ive never noticed any 'elitist splits' between gold members and regular members anywhere Ive been. then again I'm blissfully unaware of a lot of things. I think you're borrowing problems, regardless.

                Hopefully. Time will tell.
Burned here twice, let's hope third time is the charm.

let's be real here: the only reason that you would ever pay for a premium account on DeviantArt (as far as I'm aware), is if you absolutely HAVE to post polls or if you absolutely HAVE to be able to load up all the pictures all at once for easier viewing.

i don't think there are any other real benefits you get if you pay for an account on deviantArt

      Err. See below.

Well, I had a photographer account on dA. Loading a photo session one by one was totally unrealistic. Especially when you also need to fill in parts related to model for each shot, etc. When they moved bulk upload to paid, I stopped posting.

When they also got an attitude where if you didn't have premium account, you were looked down at, I just deleted mine.

eh, alright. i feel you may be jumping the gun, but that could easily happen over here. although it'll be just as slow over on FA i can tell ya that much

As I mentioned above... Checking Weasyl out for third time already. This time, when folks started swarming in, they added a bug/feature tracker (on Jan 19th) so... Let's see... I am /again/ trying to toss suggestions -- we'll know what comes out of it soon enough.
