Rules for my free story giveaway! by Gerrark

So as I'm sure you can see from my gallery there, I like to write somewhat, sexy stories specifically. Something I started a week or so back on my AD Twitter was something called my semi-daily free story giveaway, where every day or two I put up a tweet and whoever replied to it first gets a free story from me. The parameters the winner gives me can be vague or specific (though if vague, don't be surprised if I experiment or push boundaries a bit of course), and I try to write something for them for free within those parameters. The reason I did this was to not only get back into practice for writing, but also because hey I'll admit it, I love the networking and advertising it gives me.

So, why does this matter to you, fellow Weasyl users? Because I have decided to bring that giveaway from Twitter to Weasyl, which means that if you're reading this, at some point in the future you'll be eligible for a free story, how exciting! Though I'm currently still in the midst of rewarding my latest winner from twitter, sometime soon I will be putting up a journal that says something like "First person to reply to this journal gets my next free story!" or what have you, and as I'm sure you can guess, if you're the first person to reply, the prize is yours! The only caveat is that I get to post the story the story wherever I feel, which I doubt comes as any surprise. Oh, and if you'd wanna give a shout-out for me for the free story, I'd definitely appreciate that too, though that's not a requirement.

By the way, by "sometime soon" I most likely mean Monday the 20th. So if getting your own free written smut (or not smut, I definitely don't mind writing non-smut) sounds cool to you, keep your eyes peeled tomorrow for the journal. And good luck!

I'm curious about your collaboration process when writing; How much input do you normally need to craft an original story for someone, if I may ask?

    • Link

It really depends on how much the winner (Or maybe in the future commissioner, or trader? We'll see.) wants to give. I'll admit I'm rather new at this, so forgive me if I don't have it down to the exact science that I'd like. But nevertheless in the past some people have said things like "I want these characters, in this kind of setting, where this kind of thing happens," and all I provide essentially is the tone and some descriptions, which is just fine by me. Other times I've gotten nothing more than "I want this character in it, and I really like hypnosis, so as long as it has those two things, do whatever you want." And well, I just did my best to build an interesting story with that foundation, and its worked out pretty well actually. So in the end, I feel I can work with whatever kind of parameters the winner wants to give me, it's just what -they- are comfortable with. But I am always ready and willing to discuss things at length and make sure I'm on the level with what they want. After all, the story is for -you-, I definitely want you to enjoy it!

Thanks; I've entertained the idea of hiring writers but have little frame of reference for how to go about pitching a specific idea. Sounds like you're building some pretty good improv chops!

Yeah, it's a very useful exercise actually! Get to flex writing in different style but also trying to conform to different scenarios. I feel like I've improved a bit already from it.
