Thing I've learned about stories: Villain motivations by foxboyprower

The “villain” needs to have more personality and motivation that just being stupidly evil. This was the downfall of “Dust an Elysian tail”. In my review, I called the villain of the gamer a "fat chinned furry Hitler". The guy had no personality, and we barely even saw him. All that we knew about him was that he was responsible for mass genocide. There is nothing more to this character than just being "the bad guy". For the story, this is really boring because we know the bad guy is going to die. If you must have a straight villain in a story, show the villain and show us their motivations. "Good guy vs Bad guy" is shallow and predictable. Show us the motivations for the antagonist. This makes the conflict more interesting.

While his motivations were far from complete, we did at least see that he cared about his friend, his people, and his soldiers. He believed that killing the Moonkin was best to protect them.
