So, for most of this past year, bobbythornbody and I asked for your help. All the votes you guys gave us were not only enough to keep us on the charts for 41 straight weeks, but it netted us the TOP ELEVEN SPOTS ON THE DEMENTIA TOP 50 FOR 2013!! Every song we submitted, plus one we adopted because it was done by Pepper Coyote, a fellow fur, ended up on top.

Because of your efforts, our group, Fur The Love Of Mic, made up by Bobby and I, was named ARTIST OF THE YEAR!! This pronouncement was made not for the highest number of songs on the chart (that was done by Insane Ian, for the fourth year in a row. The guy is a juggernaut when it comes to creating songs.) but for the impact we had on this years chart. An impact so strong, they have changed the rules forever.

Don't panic or get angry, people. The change will allow more songs to get top exposure WITHOUT harming the change of songs from grabbing the top spots in the yearly countdown. After 20 weeks on the chart (enough to get it onto the 20 Club list) the vote count for those songs will be count only half as much for the weekly Top 20, HOWEVER, those votes will still have full value for the yearly count. With the effort we managed to sustain, the effect would simply have meant a lot of our songs would not have been so high in the 20Club, and would be lower on the charts (and some would have fallen off, as well).

What this means for the future is this:

1) Our campaign for all eleven of these songs is hereby ended. We're wiping the slate clean for 2014 as far as promoting these songs. You are still free to vote for them, however (voting for each week ends at 11:59PM on Wednesdays, just so you know) but we won't be asking you to.

2) If we decide to do a campaign like this again, it will be done with fewer songs at one time. This will allow more songs onto the chart, making is easier on everyone, and frankly, I don't think we will be as prolific this year, as both Bobby and I want to go for quality, not quantity, and our time is going to be taken up with other projects, as well, that we get a lot more fulfillment from (read: The Beach Bears).

3) I want to encourage you who are fans of funny music to keep your eyes and ears on the DT20 and the ballot. If you hear some songs you really like, vote for them, whether they were done by furs or not! What the DT20 suffers from more than anything is lack of votes. The more voters the list gets, the more representative of the actual popularity of a song becomes. Frankly, we were told that before The Furry Wall the top spots were being grabbed by songs that had as few as 6 or 7 votes. We were getting 8-16. This was why we could dominate the chart, with just a handful of furs. If we can show them that the market for funny music is very high in the furry fandom, who knows? Maybe we can get some decent artists attend some fur cons to perform. Imaging getting The Great Luke Ski to MFF or Anthrocon.

So, please. If you were going to the DT20 on a regular basis, please keep doing it, and catch the funny songs as they appear, and vote for them. And keep an eye on Bobby and I. We will be producing more, just not as many.
