Many brushes. Much awesome. Wow. by Darksilver

Sorry, I'm addicted to that silly meme. :D

And yay, look at me making journals nobody looks at.

Anyway, art is stopped for a bit. I recently got my hands (paws?) on Manga Studio 5 EX, due to all the good things I hear about it. Except I really hated the brushes. It looks pixely at the levels of zoom I work in...so while searching around for tutorials, I found a certain guy (apparently an industry veteran) selling brushes for it, mainly inking, but included pencils and painting too. It costs about 7 bucks, but it's 77 brushes...plus, I have some breathing room, despite your evil dollars being twice my brazilian currency. So I got those and began testing...and omg, it's too much awesome. I spent last night playing around the brushes, inking a comic page. Today I'll play around some more, after noticing I never adjusted MS5's pressure settings (oops) and the brush sizes (inking at 400% zoom with a size 12 brush is...painful).

Plus, I still have no contact with my two commissioners. And I REALLY miss streaming. That buzzy chat in the afternoons was fun. Might just test if anything happens if I announce it here. :c

(EDIT: Oh yeah, if you (rare person who actually looked at this) wish to take a look at the brushes and the artist's work, go here: http://frenden.myshopify.com/ )

Many brushes. Much awesome. Wow.

Ooh, I heard about Manga Studio....but the program doesn't come with the necessary brushes? Are all art programs like that? (I'm a traditional artist, so I dunno how art computer programs work)

Either way, congrats on getting a new program that works for you~

It comes with a few, but unless you know how to tweak their every aspect in detail, it's kind of useless. It took me years to get decent working photoshop brushes. Those, on the other hand, already come tuned by an experienced user. Plus, Manga Studio apparently has better tablet tracking and sensitivity control. Practice time! ;3

Fun fact about Frenden: the guy also has a great experience with wacom tablets such as the cintiq and the likes. And has recently used that experience to now start reviewing NON-wacom tablet alternatives to the cintiq.

I'm really eyeing that 19" 390$ monoprice screen tablet he recently reviewed

Yeah, I took a look on those too. Sadly, those don't make it down here and if they do, it's the price of a Cintiq. I hate my country. -_-

I think I recall seeing somewhere you come from Brazil? I recall hearing often that a lot of electronics costs and arm and a leg there in a bad way but I've never really been able to know :(

Yeah, that's right. I actually was researching tablet monitor prices here...a Cintiq 22HD goes for roughly 7500 USD. The only other of the kind was a Yinova or something, for 1300 USD. /dies.

Ugh, I feel sorry for you :(

I knew gaming consoles would cost a fortune in south america, but I never expected even "tools" electronics would also cost so much :S

Pretty much anything with a "Made in [country]" label. Enormous import taxes. But then again, even the local taxes are huge (locally produced 360's are still very very pricey) x_x
