Sonic Lost World by wakeangel2001

So, I've gone through the first couple stages in Sonic Lost World. Lots of game to go through still but I wanna share something about it. This game is different...like REALLY different. Let me explain...well...alright like this. When I played Sonic Generations I felt like I was playing a game I had for DECADES. Generations replicated the gameplay and physics of older Sonic games almost perfectly. The console version was like playing the old genesis games and Sonic Colors or Unleashed, and the 3DS version was like playing Sonic Advance and Sonic Rush. That makes sense you know, the familiar controls and physics we had grown attached to, lots of game franchises do that, such as Megaman or Mario.

But Lost World is not the same thing. They have created a totally new engine for this game, with new physics and controls that are going to take getting used to. For example, Sonic doesn't gain momentum anymore, instead he has 2 "gears." He normally moves pretty slow but when you hold down a button he runs. This makes sections of the game where you need to do precise platforming easier in principal, but a Sonic veteran like myself will find himself over or undercompensating jumps.

KEEP IN MIND THIS IS NOT BAD!!! DIFFERENT IS NOT AUTOMATICALLY BAD AND I WANT TO BE VERY VERY CLEAR THAT I DO NOT DISLIKE THIS. Sorry for the caps lock but this is the internet AND Sonic so whenever anybody talks about something new it's usually to say how horrible it is. <insert reference to the Comic's reboot, the new cartoon, or any discussions of the games made after 2001 here>

Okay so that's out of the way...Lost World has given me something I haven't had for years with a Sonic game, the sensation of having to get used to it. I die dealing with level hazards rather than breeze through on my first try, and when I beat a level I feel like I ACCOMPLISHED something.

The 3DS version of the game is cool too. Unlike generations it is much closer to the console version, instead of being a side scroller it plays mostly the same way, and it has actual CUTSCENES that match the console version instead of pasting up talking heads. The only problem with the 3DS port is the special stage system. You see it uses the gyroscope controls, so you have to stand in one place and twist your body around like an idiot in order to line up paths. This makes the special stages impossible to play in a car or outdoors (since sunlight WILL glare the screen at certain angles) and make you look like a total spaz if you were playing the game in public. I'm not even kidding, you will LITERALLY need to spin around a 360 range and tilt back and shit in order to maneuver the character and it is insanely inconvenient. It's kind of like face raiders except even face raiders had a little restraint so you could play it while sitting in a chair at least.
