Why I do what I do by MeaKitty

Last year my fiancé was forced to move from the United States to Australia; leaving behind a family that didn't care for her and wanted nothing to do with her, and for the most part was all but actively trying to kill her through neglect and indifference. When she got here she was anorexic and could barely tolerate food, which is why the lack of food money in previous journals has, and always will be, a huge issue for me. I've finally got her eating 2 full meals a day and don't want her to slip backwards into being unable to eat again, even though she always makes sure that I'm taken care of and served first, I make sure she eats , much as she can handle but I still stress about it.

She was unable to find work due to injuries that she sustained in the US Navy including but not limited to multiple spinal injuries, and late last year she also tore the ligaments in her remaining good knee and was unable to find medical care without a job or insurance. And seeing as her family didn't care they refused to help out. She's left everything behind to come start a new life here with me, and I've done everything I can to provide her with a better life.

But it's a struggle living on a single income, and seeing as I had to get myself into massive debt with a loan to pay for the intitial move internationally, it makes it all that much harder. We need to get her Australian Citizenship in order to get her onto the free healthcare system over here, to get her injuries actually taken care of, and to allow her to legitimately get a job that can help us out in the long run.

We're attempting to get a business started, but are finding it hard to get the capital to get the equipment needed to get it off the ground; we've applied to banks for help getting it going but it seems not one is willing to take a chance on us. They seem to all require equity that we just don't have. I live in a rented house, with second-hand everything from furniture to cutlery, the only things I have of value are my phone, my computer and my tablet which I need to carry out my art commissions. Kayou has even less, though I share everything I have with her, but her laptop is rapidly failing and once it's gone she won't have any other way of doing her writing commissions.

What we ideally need is the initial $3500 to get a Marriage Visa, which will allow her to stay in the country for up to 2 years while we organise a wedding to make it permanent, and will allow me to get her onto Medicare in the meantime so she can seek the medial attention she requires to get herself back into better shape. The Australian system is much better though not entirely free, and while her injuries will never completely heal, with the medial attention she will receive it will definitely help her out and put her in a better position.

**It will also allow us to get her much needed surgery for her gallstones which she's had since before she moved. In the US that's surgery that would cost a lot of money. In Australia is relatively free especially for cars like hers where it would require immediate surgery due to the length of time she's had it and the amount of pain it is causing her. We can do this even before we're married as long as she has her marriage via and is put on to Medicare which will be relatively easy to do and won't cost us anything.

From there she can get a job and we can save up to start the business and get our financial footing into better position for the long run, and ultimately get married so that she has a permanent home here with me where still will be reminded every day through words AND actions that she is loved more than anything in the Universe. She has enough experience and an awesome resume, so getting a job even with her injuries shouldn't be too much of a problem here in Australia, but it's that permit to work that we need most of all.

Currently we take commissions for extra funds to help us out with our weekly needs, ideally we only need approximately $100 extra a week for groceries though I'm not getting anywhere near that right now, and my day job can keep up with the bills themselves that's not a problem. I've also taken on an extra day at work for an indeterminate amount of time in order to cover that need. But even with this, saving to pay for the Visa itself is completely out of the question, though her current Tourist Visa doesn't expire for just under a year so we have plenty of time. Our commission prices are as follows:

MEAKITTY'S DIGITAL ART COMMISSIONS

Mea does anime-style digital and traditional commissions. They can be done as a full commission with a 50% up-front payment, or as a ladder commission whereby you pay the base +extras, and then add the price for the additional steps as you go. This allows you to buy a full color commission and pay it off over time for those that can't afford a lump sum payment upfront. Each step will only be done as it's paid for though.

COMBINED COMMISSIONS

Mea's offering a discount on art commissions to go with the writing commissions. For a start when you commission us both you get an instant 20% on any visual art piece you like. You pay for Kayou to write you a short story: "anything up to five pages (in Word, single spaced, nine point font) is also ten bucks" and I'll give you 20% off. To put that into proper math terms everyone can understand: if you purchase a 2 character full color image from me ($75) you'll save $15 - the price I'd charge for the second character.

PLUS Every 5 pages/$10 after that will be a further 5% off too. And you can have any format you want. Sketch, lineart, full color... whatever you please, and I'll apply the discount. So using the full color commission example above you'd save $3.75 for every 5 pages you commission from her. Wouldn't take you long to get a nice, long, well written story... and a free piece of art eventually if you go by that maths, cuz I'm not going to put a limit on this at all, so feel free to work out it out so you get a 100% free piece of art if you like. Of course you're welcome to get single character art/story commissions, or include more characters if you want. The discount will apply to whatever piece of you art YOU want, right across my range.
