Growing the Brand by Menagerie

Well, a little bit.

I am spreading into my third website, and the first really new account in like a decade. I've registered onto Itaku now.

Oh, and I am still on FurAffinity.

So for those of you who have left, are going to leave, or are still here and want to see me repost there, go ahead and follow. I'm beginning to wonder, as far as comments and interaction goes, which website to do things on now. Because I know we artists, after money, live on attention and I'm curious if they want all the same faving/starring and comments done on all the websites, or a particular one? Or am I just overthinking again.

I decided to jump on the Itaku bandwagon because it seemed to have the new sweet spot of a lot of these furry/furry friendly websites created during the past ten years.

Content restrictions seem to be straightforward, reasonable, and pretty open. It does have the kind of feed/endless scrolling update system that's become popular for a while and I don't think is going away so I had best get used to it. And, most importantly to me, it still has an actual gallery system with what looks like a pretty good folder sorting structure. So I'm giving it a go.

I noticed that people can peek at adult works on itaku without being registered, so that's pretty neat. I think weasyl is my cozy place for the forseeable future, but I have half a mind to make an account there- if only to lurk.

No one is gonna fault for having the lurker account. ^^

Personally I feel a bit spooked about diving into a lot of these sites with the social media type of "endless scroll", it feels kinda… icky 😰 Things going by too quickly and getting missed. It's why I couldn't really vibe with (the app formerly known as) Twitter, or Tumblr with it's semi-incomprehensible nightmare to navigate past entries.
It's nice that Itaku at least has a gallery option, but so far I think I'd feel a lot more comfy on proper gallery-centric sites than social media replacement ones.

I can sympathize with not liking the endless scrolling style. I'm not really a fan of it myself ever since I first ran into it with Tumblr. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, that's what all the new sites seem to be making. Pillowfort, Mastadon, I'm assuming this BlueSky thing, and almost all the ones that came before them over the past five years had it in some form. There is still InkBunny and Furry Network that seem to be gallery based but they've all got their own issues. I can say this about it, now that I've used Itaku for a grand total of about a week, there are two scrolls. One for posts, which is everything and one for feeds. I have yet to figure out why there is a distinction. The posts seem to work like twitter. You can make short and long ones that effectively take the place of journal entries, and the posts can include images. The feed seems to be just images. So the feed seems to be the 'frontpage' replacement that FA and Weasyl have. There are settings that allow you to avoid putting stuff into that feed or the posts. And you get notifications for those you're watching. So I think you can feasibly avoid all of that part of it if you want. I think you can also toggle whatever retweeting is called there off in someone's feed to just look at their stuff. That's a nice feature. The folder system is so far the best I've run into because you can cross link one image to several folders. That's kinda handy. There also seems to be a sort of note/DM feature but you need to have your Email verified before using it. Which I haven't done yet.
