Now Posting on Ko-Fi + My Thoughts On the Site So Far by LordDominic

Just a little update on my previous journal, I have started actively posting on Ko-Fi. Right now, I am archiving/backing up some of my fave pics from the past couple years, but I'll start mirroring my FA/Weasyl uploads there as well starting June 1 (if not a bit sooner).

So far, nothing I'm posting is paywalled, and I just sorta intend to use it as another place to post/backup my art, although I am toying with the thought of creating a single low-cost subscription tier where I just post things as soon as I'm finished with them so anyone that supports me can see the art early vs waiting for it to come up in my scheduled submission queue, just to bring in a few extra bucks since I could use the help.

Onto my thoughts on Ko-Fi as an art site, since I know a lot of people besides myself are looking for secondary sites and alternatives to DA/FA... Please note that these are my subjective opinions on the site so far, and I'm still learning my way around it. I tend to prefer the old-fashioned "art gallery" sites and have no real interest in or experience with more modern "social media" type sites so that's probably going to skew my experience a bit.

My opinions so far:
+ Up to 8 images can be included in a single post!
+ Scheduled submissions are available for Contributors (sharing 5% of donations with the site seems to unlock a sort of upgraded but not fully "premium" status, which is kinda cool) and premium members.
(Of course a tool like PostyBirb renders that mostly irrelevant, but let's be honest, a site-side scheduled submission utility is superior to a client-side one that relies on the program being active, your computer being active, and your internet connection to be working.)
+ Definitely built with monetization in mind--the purpose of the site seems to be to easily enable one-time donations and tips, with the possibility to create subscription tiers as well.
+ While I haven't tinkered with it yet, there's a commissions widget of sorts that lets clients request and pay for commissions.
+ A bunch of other options and widgets for shops, goals, promoting Twitch and Discord, and so on (also haven't tinkered with these yet since I'm not that active as a creator).

+++ It seems you can donate and contact people there anonymously and without creating an account there--I was properly introduced to the site because a friend of mine wanted me to request and pay for my commission on Ko-Fi and I was not required to sign up to do so, and I've made anonymous donations to creators a couple times in the past.
This is great for letting people be accessible to folks that don't want to sign up to yet another site/service/app/whatever just to order a commission or drop a tip/donation!

However, there are some cons, which I admit are probably more due to me liking traditional "art gallery" type sites over the more modern feed-based/social-media styled art sites.
-No favorites galleries or other ways to collect posts you like (that I have found yet).
-No view counts on posts.
-The notifications are a feed rather than the sort of message center/inbox that you can actively clear messages from.
-Some of the editing/scheduling options were behaving a bit oddly for me, like I'd go to update a description in a scheduled post, hit what I understood to be the "save and update" button (as it's the only button available), and it would be posted immediately instead of returning to the scheduled post queue.

Final thoughts:

Definitely seems like a good place to mirror what you post on other sites, but not really a suitable substitute for a more proper gallery page--it's definitely something you'd use in tandem with a gallery, especially if you'd like to be able to receive tips or monetize a bit.

Overall, I'd recommend adding it to your arsenal if you post actively, take commissions, or just want a handy way for people to tip you a few bucks if they're so inclined.

Tl;dr if you already follow me on Fur Affinity or Weasyl, consider following me on Ko-Fi as well so you can see the same posts on yet another site.

(Also a quick aside regarding commissions: I have been approached a couple times the past few weeks about commissions, but my IRL situation has been a bit hectic as of late so I haven't been actively committing to anything yet, although I am definitely planning on taking commissions when I am more able--provided that potential clients abide by my terms, of course, I've had to pass on a couple that didn't want to follow my ToS.)
