Interesting Development... by LordDominic

This morning, when I was checking my messages and about to do my weekly comment reply sweep, I was made aware that DeviantArt marked my only remaining post there, a journal stating I no longer use the site, as mature content... and lo and behold, it was!

The contents of the journal they hid are as follows.

In case you haven't noticed, or are just stumbling upon my page for the first time, I don't use this site anymore. I haven't posted here since March 2021 when I decided this site's just not worth it anymore and I don't check messages here.

I may just store everything or even deactivate this page soon, I only really keep it around to prove who I am and that my art is my art and to occasionally link back to old art here.

You can find me on Fur Affinity or Weasyl instead, where I am still somewhat active.

Peace.

I hardly think this is worthy of a mature content rating, there's no profanity, no sexual content, no insults, no misinformation, weird political or religious or ideologically sensitive statements, scams, spam, or malicious links (I know FA is considered questionable, but really?) or anything that seems worthy of being hidden in such a way.

So... this just some sort of bug, are they testing some sort of content filtering bot, or are they now actively censoring things that might be critical of them and/or containing links to other sites?

Very troubling behavior either way. If you're still using DA for some reason, it's probably time for you to pack up and leave.

Also totally unrelated, I've got art posts queued until December 16 right now, and am planning to open commissions soon as my financial situation is not great, and have done a bit of a "soft open" for friends and long-time acquaintances and watchers as I work out my terms and pricing--if you're interested, send a note on FA or Weasyl, or keep an eye out for an official announcement.

As far I know, is just a weird bug, you're not the only one affected-

I forgot to update my journal here, but it turns out they're testing some sort of content moderation bot like YouTube and other sites use, but it's broken.

A site admin commented on it here: https://www.deviantart.com/comments/1/934094001/5020253324

So this is probably just how it's going to be for a while. I'm so glad I left DeviantArt...

I don't know what it is but a lot of people I've been following have been saying something similar, I think it might be a bug

I forgot to update my journal here, but I found something on an unrelated Team journal about it...

A comment posted by DA admin KovoWolf:

"DeviantArt is currently exploring options to add advertisements to the site. To do so, we need to ensure that advertisers have a brand-safe experience and we're in the process of developing solutions to ensure that is the case. As a result, your deviation may have been automatically flagged as not safe for brands to anonymous viewers. Please know that no administrative actions are being taken against your account. Once the test concludes, we will communicate more about the actions we're taking."

One of my friends did some sleuthing and managed to get a response from someone on staff that amounted to "yes we're testing a new content moderation AI and links shouldn't trigger it".

So basically it seems like they're breaking their promises about Eclipse not having ads (I guess they're not making much money off Core Membership by running everyone off the site with bad updates lol), and implementing the same sort of content moderation bot nonsense as Tumblr and YouTube, but with that signature Eclipse jank.

Eclipse has been hellbent on destroying any legitimacy it had as an art site these past few months but this takes the cake. So glad I left.
