Confuror 2022 fue un evento bastante importante para mí en muchos aspectos. Me enseñó muchísimo: a mejorar mi trabajo en equipo, objetivos de vida, y por qué hacemos esto, porqué dedicamos tanto tiempo a esta comunidad.

Confuror es una convención que se lleva a cabo en Guadalajara, Jalisco, México. Empezó oficialmente en 2018, pero tiene toda una historia detrás en una comunidad llamada Vidafur, la cual empezó casi al mismo tiempo en que yo descubrí el furry fandom. 
Por muchos años fui únicamente espectador y asistente de los eventos que Vidafur organizaba, y a veces apoyaba un poco en organización de algunos eventos (como aquellas meets de dibujo o las fiestas de Halloween). Pero no empecé a involucrarme tanto sino hasta el 2017, cuando se realizó la última Furmeet y se decidió hacer la transición a un evento en un hotel y su respectivo centro de convenciones, que dio lugar a la primera Confuror.

Mucha expectativa había dejado el cierre de Confuror 2019 para la edición del 2020, la cual fue cancelada en su forma presencial para dar paso a dos ediciones virtuales en 2020 y 2021. Cuando en realidad ya teníamos mucho entusiasmo por ver a todos de nuevo, sentimiento que compartíamos con todos los asistentes. Y la organización para estas ediciones que terminaban sucediendo de forma virtual, y la que finalmente logró suceder de forma presencial en 2022 fueron unas batallas con gran peso sentimental, ya que hubo muchos cambios, personas que se fueron, otros que llegaron; por lo cual el tema “Día de Muertos” tuvo mucho mayor peso e importancia para la edición que hacía volver a la Confuror, ya que fue una oportunidad para celebrar la vida, de los que seguimos en este mundo y de los que ya no están con nosotros.

Debo también recalcar lo mucho que se notaba que la gente ya necesitaba un evento presencial, tanto que existió mucha participación por parte de los asistentes e incluso de los que no iban a asistir por querer ayudar en la convención; al menos lo noté en el área en la que ayudo, pues había muchos artistas que querían ser voluntarios, nos llegaba mucho arte para usar en la convención; cada que lanzábamos una convocatoria, el nivel de participación era muy alto. Tanto que a veces no podíamos usar todo lo que nos llegaba, y hacía lo posible para usar lo más posible incluso en otras áreas del evento.

Día del Registro

Nos habíamos preparado tantos meses para que la convención resultara de lo mejor, dediqué mucho de mi tiempo laboral para el evento, que yo estaba bastante nervioso días antes de que sucediera. Muchas cosas que habían sido planeadas y que no sabía si iban a funcionar como debían, si iban a tener éxito o si iban a ser bien aceptadas. Había muchas cosas en mi cabeza que me daban vueltas, que tenía una libreta con notas personales para seguir mejorando alguna actividad que había propuesto o planeado, para seguir trabajando y que saliera perfecta, lo cual eso me ponía todavía más de nervios.

Mis nervios casi revientan desde el día miércoles, antes de la convención, cuando vi el caos que existía en el registro del evento, y que no pudo abrir el registro para ese día, y que al día siguiente tardaron mucho en estar listos y se hizo un verdadero caos con las filas y la desorganización para que la gente pudiera recoger su badge del evento. La gente quejándose por la mala organización del evento y la mala experiencia que se estaban llevando, que en ese momento me entró una depresión muy grande, pensando que al estar trabajando tanto en el evento y que al final algo así lo arruinara. No me quedé con los brazos cruzados y me puse a ayudar lo más que pude. Fue un día verdaderamente estresante y agotador.

Ceremonia de Apertura

El día viernes estaba muy nervioso de lo que fuera a ocurrir, después de que la gente estaba molesta por haber esperado horas en las filas, y que ya empezaría al fin oficialmente el evento, con cosas que realmente eran mi responsabilidad y que yo había planeado por tanto tiempo. Pero afortunadamente todo empezó a salir bien desde el aquel día.

Había escrito y dirigido toda la primera parte de la ceremonia de apertura, había preparado los props y audios pre grabados para que todo saliera muy bien, me levanté desde las 6 de la mañana para empezar a preparar el salón principal desde las 7 de la mañana. Al principio pensé que era una exageración empezar a ver todo desde tan temprano, pues la ceremonia de apertura no iba a empezar sino hasta las 11 de la mañana, pero estaba tan ansioso de que saliera bien, que quería empezar a preparar todo desde lo antes posible, y me alegra que haya sido así, porque el salón principal no estaba acomodado como me hubiera gustado, empecé a moverme junto con los de audio y video para que acomodaran todo en su lugar. Pude hacer ensayos con los fursuiters que iban a salir en una primera obra de teatro, pude hacer ensayos con los de la orquesta que iban a tocar en vivo (Los cuales se lucieron. ¡Todos! ¡La orquesta y los actores! Desde el ensayo ya se estaban luciendo), pudimos resolver problemas técnicos que no había contemplado sino hasta ese momento. Y justo cuando terminamos de ensayar fue que empezó a entrar la gente a tomar sus lugares para la ceremonia.

La ceremonia de apertura fue todo un éxito, los fursuiters actuaron de maravilla, la orquesta tocó muy bien, Aliberto el cocodrilo fue…como siempre, muy Aliberto. Yuri, la Zarigüeya

Es mucho lo que podría decir sobre Yuri, la mascota de Confuror. Incluso podría escribir todo un journal acerca de este personaje.
Yuri apareció por primera vez en la última Furmeet Guadalajara que existió, en 2017, antes de convertirse el evento en una convención. El tema de la Furmeet fue titulada “Furs in Space”, y se convocó hacer una mascota para dicho evento, el cual resultó ganador un tlacuache (o zarigüeya) llamado Yuri, en honor al primer cosmonauta Yuri Gagarin.
En 2018, cuando ocurriría la primer Confuror, resultó irónico que la primera asociación que la convención ayudaría como caridad sería “El Rescate Zarigüeyal”, por lo que se decidió que era perfecto que Yuri siguiera siendo la mascota del evento, para hacer honor a quienes estábamos apoyando.

Pero era verdad que se ignoraba un poco el hecho de que teníamos mascota en el evento, nadie realmente asociaba al evento con tlacuaches, casi nadie conocía a Yuri, y el arte que recibíamos casi nunca incluía a Yuri. Y yo veía como otras convenciones hacían tanto honor a sus mascotas y me resultaba tan divertido que parecía que ellos eran los anfitriones de sus eventos, siendo personajes no existentes pero que la gente terminaba amando, y ese era uno de mis objetivos en Confuror. Quería que Yuri fuera para Confuror lo que Mausie es para NordicFuzzCon o Brok para Confuzzled.

Desde 2020 me puse a mover los hilos para que Yuri fuera alguien importante y querido para los asistentes de la convención, y aunque sí se estaba logrando, llegó la pandemia, por lo que mucho de eso se fue para abajo. No se pudo tener a tiempo el fursuit, pues los proveedores de peluche tampoco estaban trabajando, y no iba a ser tan atractivo, según yo, presentar tanto a la mascota en una edición virtual.

Para 2021 el fursuit de Yuri ya estaba listo, gracias a Katsudoggo que hizo un trabajo espectacular, pero tristemente la edición de 2021 también tuvo que ser virtual y tuvimos que presentar a la mascota desde los eventos de stream por internet. Pero desde entonces fue que ya se sugería que los artistas incluyeran a Yuri, ya sea como personaje principal o secundario, y que se prestara más importancia a la imagen del tlacuache como símbolo de Confuror.

No tenía idea que todo eso había estado cocinando algo tan inesperado cuando llegó la edición presencial y que por fin la gente pudo conocer a Yuri en persona. ¡La gente amó a Yuri!
Desde que salió por primera vez los asistentes ya querían abrazarlo, tomarse fotos con él, tenían regalos preparados para Yuri, le hacían muchos halagos. ¡Salía al escenario y el público ovacionaba “Yuri, Yuri, Yuri!” Y cuando volvía a bajar del escenario era toda una celebridad, la gente se formaba para tomarse fotografías, y se hacía todo un Meet & Greet como los que uno ve en los parques de Disney. También debo aplaudir a quien usaba a Yuri, que hizo un trabajo excepcional y nunca perdió energía alguna.

Al final se llenó toda una caja con regalos para Yuri, la gente escribía recados, cartas, dibujos y también posts en Twitter con mucho amor para Yuri. Nunca me había tocado tanto amor para un personaje dentro del fandom.

Yo no fui el creador de Yuri, tampoco actué como Yuri, mucho menos fui el fursuit maker de Yuri. Pero me sentí muy orgulloso por lo mucho que la gente amó a la mascota. Vaya que tenía ese sueño de que Confuror tuviese una mascota que la gente asociara con el evento y que amara, y superó por mucho lo que tenía en mente.

Yuri’s Quest

Otra actividad que sugerí desde 2020, tras haberla visto en NordicFuzzCon desde la primera edición que asistí de aquella convención sueca, en 2019. Fue muy divertido ver en aquella convención lo de la colección de stickers, y que al completar la actividad te metían a una lotería para ganar un dibujo de un artista. Esa vez yo completé la colección de stickers, no gané el dibujo, pero en realidad fue mucho más divertida la búsqueda que la recompensa. Pensé que sería buena idea llevar esa actividad a Confuror. Sin embargo, no pudo suceder sino hasta la edición presencial de 2022.

En NordicFuzzCon había que completar 9 stickers, pensé que para la primera edición de Confuror, y para no complicar la logística del evento, sería bien empezar solo con 6.
Originalmente yo no estaba planeando la actividad, solo la había sugerido, pero era alguien más del staff quien se estaba encargando de ella, pero al ver que dicha actividad estaba siendo muy descuidada, y que no existía ningún avance, y tras ser el único en el staff de tener experiencia de cómo tenía que funcionar esa actividad, al final tomé las riendas de la planeación. Pero sabía que durante el evento no iba a poder administrarla, así que, con ayuda de Akita, uno de los coordinadores de voluntarios, pudimos hacer realidad esta actividad, no solo que existieran los stickers prometidos, sino que la gente verdaderamente los pudiese encontrar donde habíamos prometido que serían canjeados.

En el primer día hubo una complicación muy grande para la actividad, y fue culpa del retraso del registro del jueves, por lo que el día jueves no existió la actividad, no había stickers en ninguna parte, y eso me empezó a estresar, ya que fue otra actividad a la que le dediqué demasiado tiempo y que tenía esa ansiedad por que quedara perfecta.

El día viernes de la convención comenzó la actividad finalmente, y parecía que la gente ya estaba preparada para ello, porque desde el primer momento en que la convención comenzó, los asistentes ya estaban buscando los stickers. Debo hacer una mención muy honorífica a Akita, porque movió todo y estuvo trabajando muchísimo para que la actividad se pudiese mantener en pie y la gente pudiese conseguir los stickers, a pesar de que había muchas cosas que todavía no estaban montadas.

¡Y vaya que tuvo un gran éxito la actividad, muchísimo más de lo que pensamos que iba a tener! La gente estaba enloquecida por conseguir stickers, incluso todavía no daban las 12 del mediodía del viernes y había quienes ya habían conseguido todos los stickers y querían canjear su premio. Los stickers que pensamos que serían los más difíciles de conseguir (llamados “Explorador”, ya que iban a estar escondidos por toda la convención, o Yuri iba a repartir huevos de colores con esos stickers dentro), en realidad no fueron tan difíciles de conseguir como creíamos. Pues hubo un grupo de stickers que eran muy fáciles de conseguir y se agotaron por completo desde el sábado en la mañana, por lo que la gente empezaba a querer intercambiar el sticker de “Explorador” por el de “Compromiso Social”, que era ese dichoso sticker que se nos agotó de inmediato.

Para los que completaran su planilla, la cual estaba dentro del conbook, con los 6 stickers, podían canjearlo por un premio sorpresa en Con-Ops, el cual era un pin esmaltado diseñado por Arty & Chikle. Había 300 pins, que, al principio, pensé que eran demasiada la cantidad de premios, pero al ver la aceptación de la actividad, pienso que incluso nos faltó imprimir más stickers para que la gente pudiese seguir coleccionando, ya que incluso después de la ceremonia de clausura, la gente seguía buscando los stickers, aún si no canjeaban su premio, pues querían tener su planilla completa en su conbook.

¡Todo un éxito! Ahora sabemos qué podemos mejorar para esta misma actividad el próximo año, poderla aumentar y hacer que sea más divertida aún.
Y también fue una excusa muy buena para que los asistentes conservaran su conbook con mucho cariño.

Conbook

Porque hablando de que los asistentes conserven su conbook, siento que ese ha sido un gran éxito desde el comienzo de la Confuror, y de lo cual vaya que me puedo sentir muy orgulloso, ya que ese siempre ha sido mi departamento principal dentro del staff de Confuror.

Soy el encargado de la dirección y edición del Conbook, y ese siempre había sido un sueño mío desde que era adolescente. Siempre me gustó comprar revistas, coleccionaba revistas de todo tipo de temas: música, ciencia, curiosidades, arte… y algo que siempre soñaba y que nunca pude cumplir fue poder hacer un periódico escolar, y poder estar haciendo publicaciones internas. Algo que nunca ocurrió por la falta de presupuesto que tenían las escuelas a las que asistí. Y pensé que ese sueño desaparecería porque cada vez veía que menos revistas existían, y con justa razón, la verdad es que yo ya tampoco compro revistas, prefiero consumir contenido en internet. Pero cuando asistí a mi primera convención furry, lo que más me llamó la atención fue el conbook, me pareció una idea genial, y siempre procuré mandar contenido para el conbook, y quería ayudar a las convenciones de alguna manera con su conbook, pero claro, ya todas tenían a sus encargados principales de ello.

Pero cuando apareció Confuror como convención, yo me apunté inmediatamente para ser el encargado del conbook, y vaya que le puse mucho corazón, y me encantó que la misma comunidad aportaba mucho contenido para que sus dibujos y sus piezas aparecieran dentro de dicha publicación.

Aquel primer año de Confuror, en 2018, fue un poco accidental una actividad que los mismos asistentes crearon, y que terminó dándole un valor sentimental al conbook mucho más allá del que se planeaba. Pues nos sobraba una página en el conbook, y debatíamos qué más podríamos incluir dentro de esa única página, al final ganó dejarla en blanco y ponerle de título “Notas y Garabatos”, pero los asistentes usaron esa página como si se tratara de un anuario, y le pedían autógrafos a sus amigos, a artistas y a otros asistentes dentro de la convención.

Por lo que en 2019 se volvió a incluir a propósito esa página en blanco, ahora titulada “Notas y Autógrafos”. Pero la convención había duplicado su nivel de asistencia, por lo que uno de las peticiones que muchos pidieron fue el de aumentar esa página para autógrafos a dos, en vez de solo una, porque no les cabían todos los autógrafos que querían pedir, y de hecho fui testigo de ello, recuerdo que me pedían autógrafo y ya se los tenía que firmar en una página diferente del conbook la cual no estaba planeada para que se rayara sobre ella.

Entonces en 2022, aumenté a dos páginas esa sección, y vaya que la gente se seguía volviendo loca con ello, pedían demasiados autógrafos a todo mundo, se llenaban las dos páginas. Y entonces no solo la gente conservaba su conbook con mucho cariño por el diseño, sino también por el valor sentimental que presentaba. Y ahora con el Yuri’s Quest, que la gente en verdad abrazó esa actividad, era doble razón por la cual la gente conservaba sus conbooks.

Veía en internet posts donde la gente mostraba los 3 conbooks de Confuror, algunos hasta lo enmarcaban, o los guardan en lugares muy especiales en sus casas. Incluso veíamos conbooks en Con-Ops en la sección de Objetos Perdidos, y que la gente los buscaba, preocupados, si alguien no había visto su conbook, y cuando veían que los recuperaban, mostraban una expresión de alivio por no haberlo perdido.

Es un fenómeno que no me ha tocado ver en otras convenciones, que la gente tenga tanto aprecio por su conbook. En Estados Unidos hay muchas convenciones que de plano dejaron de hacer conbook, o que los hacen virtuales y que en realidad son muy pocos los que sí lo revisan. O que sí se imprimen, pero la gente no quiere tomarlos, o que se les olvidan y no quieren cargarlos de vuelta de casa. En cambio, en Confuror se ha vuelto todo un tesoro que la gente siente como parte de su experiencia de haber ido a la convención. Y eso también lo he sentido como un gran éxito.

Paneles Propios

En esta Confuror solicité 3 paneles propios, los cuales fueron aceptados todos (sin ninguna sorpresa, jeje) y los 3 me los pusieron para el día sábado. Los paneles fueron: Dibujo de Figura con Fursuiters en Vivo, Fursuit Charades y Garabatos para la Caridad.

Afortunadamente los 3 paneles fueron muy exitosos. El primero de ellos, el de Dibujo de Figura con Fursuiters en Vivo, lo grabé, pero no me he dado el tiempo de editarlo para compartirlo en internet. Es por el que estaba más nervioso, porque… mi propuesta de este panel fue un poco para hacer parodia (sin ningún afán de burla) a las clases de dibujo que son con figuras de desnudos en vivo, y que los artistas tienen pocos segundos para dibujar la pose que tienen en frente de ellos, pero la idea que tenía al poner a fursuiters posando, es que los fursuiters como personajes de caricatura viviente suelen nunca quedarse quietos y son difíciles de controlar, por lo que pedirles que se queden quietos en una misma pose por cierta cantidad de tiempo resultaría bastante imposible, y entonces la clase de dibujo se volvería más como estar cuidando a niños de guardería que estar dando una clase para artistas. Cuando pensé esa idea como para un panel pensé que sería algo cómico y que la gente disfrutaría más como un show que como una clase de arte. Pero me empecé a poner nervioso cuando se me ocurrió que a lo mejor la gente sí iría a aquel panel para querer aprender en serio y no a ver una payasada, por lo que no sabía cómo iba a reaccionar la audiencia. Sin embargo, todo resultó de acuerdo a lo planeado, la audiencia se divirtió mucho, se reían por todo lo que hacían los fursuiters, era un descontrol total por parte de los fursuiters (y justo esa era la intención).
El panel tuve que darlo en inglés y en español al mismo tiempo, pues tenía audiencia de todas partes del mundo, y pareció que lo disfrutaron mucho. Un gran aplauso para los fursuiters que me estuvieron ayudando para ese panel, que hicieron una actuación muy divertida: Yuri, Raucous, KOIDELCOYOTE, Avocado y Pink Diamond.

El siguiente panel fueron los Fursuit Charades. El cual fue el único de mis paneles que no fue de acuerdo a lo planeado. Ya era la 4a ocasión que organizaba los Fursuit Charades en una convención, por lo cual ya tenía experiencia en ello, sin embargo, este año en particular hubo muchos fursuiters que se querían apuntar para jugar. Siempre planeaba los juegos para 16 fursuiters, y tenía plan B, C y D por si llegaban menos fursuiters de lo esperado. Pero este año llegaron 29 fursuiters que querían jugar, casi el doble de lo esperado. Por lo que por el pánico quise improvisar y elegí 20 fursuiters en vez de 16, por lo que no fue tan bueno para el juego, ya que los equipos eran muy grandes, tuvimos que improvisar algunas palabras para que actuaran, ya que no tenía preparadas tantas, y tuve que reducir los turnos de juego para que pudiera suceder la actividad en menos de una hora. Siento que, para la próxima, no deberé tocarme tanto el corazón y elegir estrictamente a 16 fursuiters, como originalmente lo tenía planeado, o planear una nueva estrategia de juego para cuando se apuntan 20 fursuiters o más. Aun así la gente se divirtió, tanto los fursuiters como la audiencia, y me hicieron saber al finalizar el panel cuánto se habían divertido, pero yo me llevé un poco de mal sabor por el hecho que sabía que pudo haber quedado mejor y más divertido, en cambio sentí que estaba improvisando muchas cosas.

Mi último panel que hice ese día fue el de Garabatos para la Caridad. 10 artistas con fursuit dibujaban garabatos para la gente, equipados con lápices gigantes y crayones, la gente cooperaba con lo que quisieran para poderse llevar algún dibujo de cualquiera de esos artistas. Los artistas que me ayudaron para hacer realidad este panel fueron: Almita Otter, Rocket Raccoon, Rom Howler, Wolfhug, Frechet, Franko, charmandrigo, Yaki, Katx Fish y Douglas Cat. También un gran éxito de evento, juntamos muchísimo dinero para la caridad durante el evento (el cual no pudimos contarlo en el momento y se combinó con la donación de otros eventos de caridad), todo el tiempo hubo flujo de gente queriendo dibujos durante toda la hora que duró la actividad.

Art Jam y Golden Tail Awards

Después de ese día que tuve 3 paneles casi seguidos, mi garganta ya no daba para más, me empezaba a sentir afónico y pensé que me iba a enfermar.
Pero desde ese momento sentí que por fin tenía un momento de libertad, sin pendientes urgentes de la convención, sin ningún compromiso, por lo que quise sentarme en el Zoo, hacer un art jam, algunos art trades. Me puse de acuerdo con mi amigo Frechet, que iba acompañado de Charmandrigo y Rexy. Es que Frechet es una de esas personas que tenía tantas ganas de conocer, y por fin vino a México, por fin podía conocerlo, y me frustraba un poco que yo estaba tan ocupado y no podía compartir un poco de mi tiempo con él. Por lo que aproveché esos momentos libres que tenía para verme con él, sentarnos a dibujar y a platicar.

Mientras ocurría eso, al mismo tiempo había una fila de gente gigantesca recorriendo todo el centro de convenciones, era la fila para el Night Market, pues al parecer todos los 1,800 asistentes de la convención decidieron ir y formarse para aquel Dealers Den de cosas 18+, la verdad es que no sé qué se estaban esperando ver ahí dentro porque todos salían decepcionados de haber esperado tanto tiempo y encontrarse…tal cual lo que se tenían que encontrar ahí: un dealers den con arte 18+. Yo no entré, pero disfruté mucho tiempo de calma haciendo trades de arte en el Zoo.

También en ese rato fue que alguien me avisó que ya había ocurrido el evento de Golden Tail Awards, donde yo estaba nominado en la categoría de Mejor Cómic por Art & Biro. Según yo, sí quería asistir, e incluso tenía un discurso preparado por si ganaba, pero ya durante la convención tenía tantas cosas en mi cabeza y estaba tan al pendiente de todo, que se me olvidó por completo darme una vuelta a aquel evento. Sin embargo, me entregaron mi premio, el cual se agradece muchísimo.
Acerca de los premios, lo que no me gusta es que se genere una cierta controversia al elegir nominados y decidir quién es mejor en algo que alguien más. Pienso que el Furry fandom debe de ser colaborativo, no competitivo, y que esto no es por demostrar quién es mejor o quién está encima de nadie, por lo que el reconocimiento no solo va para los nominados, sino para todos los que hacen de este fandom un lugar en donde podemos ser nosotros mismos. Sin embargo, no me gustaría desprestigiar el trabajo y esfuerzo que hacen los que organizan los premios Golden Tail Awards, me sería una grosería decidir rechazar el premio u opinar cosas contrarias sobre lo que busca esa organización, y a pesar de que no buscaba ser ganador o resaltar sobre nada, y que seguiré produciendo arte e historias sin verdaderamente buscar algún tipo de premio o reconocimiento, me da mucho gusto que se me haya considerado y que además hayan decidido darme dicho premio. ¡Muchas gracias!

Mural para Colorear y Subasta de Caridad

Una idea que se me ocurrió implementar en el evento fue la creación de un mural impreso que la gente pudiese libremente colorear a gusto de cada uno de los que decidieran participar. Esta idea la traje al ver que en Furry Weekend Atlanta unos asistentes pusieron un impreso coloreable en un muro y un bote de crayones para que la gente pudiese llegar y colorear, y de esa forma elaborar una pieza comunitaria por muchos miembros de la convención.

Le encargué dicha pieza al grandioso artista Zander Maple, el cual hizo un dibujo fenomenal. Este dibujo fue pegado en el Zoo, yo puse un bote de crayones que compré en una tienda de arte, y un letrero donde indicaba a la gente que podían colorearlo como quisieran, y que la pieza final sería subastada para caridad.

En realidad esto fue un gran experimento, no sabía si realmente la gente iba a participar, si iban a respetar que solo lo colorearan con crayones (Ya que como lo pegamos directamente sobre un muro del centro de convenciones, hubiera sido catastrófico que decidiera alguien colorear algo con plumones de aceite, y sí indiqué en las instrucciones de la actividad que únicamente usaran crayones), y también quería ver si los crayones sobrevivirían después de la convención, ya que no estaba seguro si alguien se los robaría o los respetarían todo el tiempo en su lugar. Y un último experimento iba a ser… si se terminaría la pieza antes de que la convención acabara, y si alguien pagaría algo por esa pieza durante la subasta de caridad.

Todo resultado de ese experimento fue positivo: sí se completó la ilustración y con un resultado muy bello, sí respetaron el únicamente colorearlo con crayones, y todos los crayones sobrevivieron, pude guardarlos de vuelta (y seguramente serán los mismos que ponga para el próximo año). Y lo mejor de todo: durante la subasta de caridad se juntaron $2,500 pesos por esta pieza. ¡En verdad me llena de orgullo lo bella que es esta comunidad!

Y hablando de la subasta de caridad. ¡Vaya evento! ¡Uncle Kage y Policho, los chairmans de Anthrocon y de Argentina FurFiesta juntos llevando a cabo la subasta de caridad eran un gran equipo! Aún si alguien no iba a ofertar para llevarse ninguna pieza, era simplemente entretenido ver este evento por todos los comentarios que hacían ambos sobre cada una de las piezas y el comportamiento de la gente ofertando. Yo ofrecí dos piezas para subasta, una era un slot de comisión de arte, y el otro fue un cuadro impreso sobre tela. Entre ambas piezas se juntó $9,500 pesos para caridad. ¡Bastante bien! Y yo también terminé comprando dos piezas. Una fue el paquete de regalos de registro de Argentina FurFiesta, y una pieza original de Animal Art Crimes.

Es curioso lo que nos sucede con las subastas de caridad de Confuror, que además de ser el evento donde más se junta para la caridad, también ha sido un evento que ha aumentado cada vez más su tiempo de duración (cosa que no deberíamos de permitir, ya que nadie aguantaría un evento de más de hora y media de únicamente subasta, debemos de generar nuevas formas de que la gente pueda ofertar para subastas, aun cuando son de caridad, como le hacen muchas convenciones en Estados Unidos con las subastas silenciosas). Pues la primera vez en 2018 se programó que la subasta duraría media hora, y duró toda una hora. En 2019 se programó que la subasta duraría una hora, y duró hora y media. Ahora en 2022 se programó para que durara hora y media, y duró 2 horas. Pero justo después de la subasta, comenzó la ceremonia de clausura, con casi 40 minutos de atraso por culpa de la misma subasta, la cual nadie se debería quejar, en verdad se juntó muchísimo este año para caridad.

Ceremonia de Clausura

Una noche antes del último día de la convención, me desvelé dentro de Con-ops trabajando en la preparación de la Ceremonia de Clausura. Sería algo que me encantaría tener listo desde antes de que incluso el evento ocurriera, y simplemente dejar en blanco lo que hay que llenar de información para mostrar en el evento, pero no todo se tiene listo como sería lo ideal, incluso los invitados de honor del siguiente año nos mandaron sus videos durante la convención, y había que editarlos y añadirles subtítulos.

Lo que puedo decir es que valió la pena completamente esa desvelada, esa noche me fui a dormir hasta las 5 de la mañana, y me desperté a las 8 am para poder estar listo para el Furuist Festival, y no me arrepiento de ello, a pesar de haber dormido muy poco. Porque la ceremonia de clausura salió de maravilla. Sorprendieron los anuncios que tenían que sorprender, la reacción de la gente fue la esperada, la reacción de los de Demitificando Tiburones, la caridad a la que apoyamos este año, fue épica. En lo personal, siento que Yuri se lució con la actuación esa noche, y al final del evento, ya que se anunció el tema, las fechas, y todo lo relacionado con la Confuror 2023, Yuri tuvo un Meet & Greet improvisado justo a un lado del escenario, hubo mucha gente que se formó para poder abrazar por última vez al querido tlacuache, tomarse fotos con él, darle más regalos. Me sorprendió la energía que seguía guardando Yuri a pesar de haber vivido todo un fin de semana pesado y de ya haber estado horas en fursuit. En verdad… un aplauso para él.

Confuror 2022 fue una experiencia que va a quedar muy grabada en mi memoria, fue una mezcla de emociones, positivas y negativas, pero que resultó en algo mucho más positivo que nada. A pesar de muchas de mis quejas que tengo con la organización general del evento, que este no es el espacio para mencionar mis quejas, pero menciono eso para recalcar que no todo fue tan positivo, pero los aspectos negativos que me llevo del evento no son en vano, sirven para aprender de los errores, para sugerir cambios, para trabajar en las debilidades que todavía se tiene como equipo, y fortalecerse mucho más, para poder seguir brindando felicidad y experiencias tan especiales a mucha gente que se tomó el tiempo de venir a Guadalajara para disfrutar de Confuror, que en general escuché comentarios positivos de lo bien que se la pasaron, que al final resultó poca cosa la mala experiencia que tenían durante el registro a comparación de los buenos momentos que vivieron el resto del fin de semana. Se tendrá que mejorar para que las experiencias puedan salir mejor en las siguientes ediciones, y por todo lo vivido se puede empatizar mucho más con el resto de convenciones, especialmente las que son mucho más grandes que Confuror, pues al fin y al cabo todos los que trabajamos ayudando a una convención somos humanos, lo hacemos de forma voluntaria, damos nuestro tiempo, dinero y esfuerzo para que un evento salga exitoso y la gente pueda pasarla bien. Y ese es el objetivo principal de porqué hacemos eso, para que la gente se lleve una experiencia inolvidable, que los furries tengamos un espacio donde podamos ser nosotros mismos y mejorar como personas, dándonos cuenta que no estamos solos, que hay personas iguales o más locas que nosotros, y que podemos formar una familia con las personas más inesperadas de cualquier parte del mundo.

Confuror 2022 was a pretty big event for me in many ways. It taught me a lot: to improve my teamwork skills, my life goals, and why is the reason we do all this, why we dedicate so much time to this community.

Confuror is a convention that takes place in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. It officially started in 2018, but it has a whole history behind it in a community named Vidafur, which started almost at the same time that I discovered the furry fandom. For many years I was only a spectator and attendee to the events that Vidafur organized, and sometimes I helped a little in the organization of some events (such as those drawing meets or Halloween parties). But I didn't start to get so involved until 2017, when the last Furmeet was held and it was decided to transition to an event in a hotel and its respective convention center, which gave rise to the first Confuror.
We had a lot of excitement for a physical edition to finally happened, we had two virtual editions on 2020 and 2021, and despite they were great, they were far from having a real event. We were really excited to finally have an in-person event again, a feeling that we were sharing with all the attendees.
This year was especially challenging because we had to fight against many changes, a lot of sentimental weight, people who left us, other who arrived; so the theme "Día de Muertos” (Day of the Dead) had much greater weight and importance for this edition, since it was an opportunity to celebrate life, of those of us who are still in this world and of those who are no longer with us.

I must also emphasize how much it was noticed that people already needed a face-to-face event, so much so that there was a lot of participation from the attendees and even from those who were not going to attend because they wanted to help in the convention; At least I noticed it in the area in which I help, because there were many artists who wanted to volunteer, we received a lot of art to use in the convention; Every time we were requesting any type of submission, the level of participation was very high. So much so that sometimes we couldn't use everything that we received, and I did my best to use as much as possible even in other areas of the event.

Registration Day

I dedicated a lot of my working time to the event, that I was quite nervous days before it happened. Many things that had been planned and I didn't know if they were going to work as I would love to, I didn’t know if they were going to be successful or if they were going to be well accepted. There were many things in my head that were spinning around my head, every time I had a new idea I wrote it down to continue working on it and that it would come out perfect, which made me even more nervous.

My nerves almost exploded on Wednesday before the convention, when I saw the chaos that existed in the registration line of the event, they couldn’t open the registration for that day and of course people were complaining and social networks were exploding, many attendees were suggesting that Confuror was not working very well. And the next day they took a long time to be ready, they promised to open registration at 2pm and it was already 6pm and it finally opened, it was a real chaos with the lines and the disorganization only for people could pick their convention badge. The people complaining about the poor organization of the event and the bad experience they were having, that at that moment I felt very depressed, thinking that by working so hard on the event and that in the end something like that would ruin it. I didn’t stay still just watching and I started to help as much as I could. It was a truly stressful and exhausting day.

Opening ceremony

On Friday I was very nervous about what was going to happen, after people were upset for having waited hours in line, and that the event would finally officially start, with things that really were my responsibility and that I had planned for a long time. But luckily everything went very well from that day.
I had written and directed the entire first part of the opening ceremony, I had prepared the props and pre-recorded audio so that everything went very well, I got up at 6 in the morning to start preparing the main stage at 7 in the morning. At first I thought it was an exaggeration to start my day that early, since the opening ceremony was not going to start until 11am, but I was so anxious for it to go well, that I wanted to start preparing everything as soon as possible, and I am glad that it was so, because main stage was not accommodated as I would have liked, I started moving along the AV guys so that they could accommodate everything in its place. I was able to do rehearsals with the fursuiters who were going to appear in a first play, I was able to do rehearsals with those from the orchestra who were going to play live (Which were brilliant. Everyone! The orchestra and the fursuit performers! From the rehearsal they were doing a really great job), we were able to solve technical problems that I had not contemplated until that moment. And just when we finished rehearsing, people began to come in to take their places for the ceremony. So everything was in a perfect timing.

The opening ceremony was a complete success, the fursuiters performed wonderfully, the orchestra played very well, Aliberto the crocodile was…as always, very Aliberto. Yuri the Opossum

There's a lot I could say about Yuri, Confuror's mascot. I could even write a whole journal about this character.
Yuri appeared for the first time in the last Furmeet Guadalajara that existed, in 2017, before the event turn in a convention. The theme of the Furmeet was titled “Furs in Space”, and they made a mascot design contest for the event, the winner was an opossum named Yuri, in honor of the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. In 2018, when the first Confuror would take place, it was ironic that the first association that the convention would help as a charity was "El Rescate Zarigüeyal", association that rescue and set free opossums and other critters in the jungle, so Yuri was perfect to continue being the mascot of the event, to honor those who we were supporting.
But on the first editions, the fact that we had a mascot for the event was somewhat ignored, no one really associated the event with opossums, almost no one knew Yuri, and the art we received almost never included Yuri the opossum. And I saw how other conventions honored their mascots so much and their attendees loved so much, and that was one of my goals for Yuri in Confuror. I wanted Yuri to be to Confuror what Mausie is to NordicFuzzCon or Brok is to Confuzzled.

Since 2020 I started pushing with the art department that Yuri was someone important for the convention, and although it was being achieved, the pandemic arrived, so many plans were taken down, even for having the fursuit of Yuri in time, because the fur fabric suppliers were not working either, and it was not going to be so attractive, according to me, to present the mascot in a virtual edition.

By 2021 Yuri's fursuit was ready, thanks to Katsudoggo who did a spectacular job, but sadly the 2021 edition also had to be virtual and we had to present the mascot from the internet stream events. But since then I was already suggesting that artists who volunteered for Confuror include Yuri on the art, either as a main or secondary character, and that more importance be given to the image of the opossum as a symbol of Confuror.

I had no idea that all of this had been cooking up something when the physical edition was finally here and people were finally able to meet Yuri in person. People loved Yuri! Since he came out for the first time, the attendees already wanted to hug him, take pictures with him, they had gifts prepared for Yuri, they complimented him a lot. He came out on stage and the audience cheered "Yuri, Yuri, Yuri!" And when he came down from the stage he was quite a celebrity, people lined up to take pictures, and there was a whole Meet & Greet like the ones you see in Disney parks. I also have to applaud the Yuri performer, who did an outstanding job and never lost any energy.

In the end a whole box was filled with gifts for Yuri, people wrote messages, letters, drawings and also posts on Twitter with lots of love for Yuri. I rarely see so much love for a character within the fandom.

I was not Yuri's creator, nor did I perform as Yuri, much less I was Yuri's fursuit maker. But I was very proud of that character, for how much people loved the mascot. Wow, I had this dream of Confuror having a mascot that people would associate with the event and love, and it went way beyond my expectations.

Yuri's Quest

Another activity that I suggested since 2020, after having seen it at NordicFuzzCon since the first edition I attended at that Swedish convention, in 2019. It was very fun to see the sticker collection at that convention, when you complete the activity they put you in a lottery to win a drawing by an artist. That time I completed the collection of stickers, I did not win the drawing, but in reality the quest was much more fun than the reward. I thought it would be a good idea to bring that activity to Confuror. However, it could not happen until the physical edition of 2022.

At NordicFuzzCon you had to complete 9 stickers, I thought that for the first edition of Confuror, and in order not to complicate the logistics of the event, it would be good to start with only 6.
Originally I was not planning the activity, I had only suggested it, but it was someone else from the staff who was in charge of it, but seeing that said activity was being very careless, and that there was no progress, and after being the only one in the staff who had previous experience of how that activity had to work: in the end I took charge of it. But I knew that during the event I would not be able to manage it, so with the help of Akita, one of the volunteer coordinators, we were able to make this activity a reality, not only that the promised stickers existed, but that people could actually find them wherever we promised they could get one.
On the first day there was a very big complication for the activity, and it was the fault of the registration delay on Thursday, so on Thursday the activity didn’t exist at all, there were no stickers anywhere, and that began to stress me, since It was another activity that I dedicated too much time to and that I had that anxiety for it to be perfect.

On the Friday of the convention, the activity finally began, and it seemed that people were already prepared for it, because from the first moment the convention started, the attendees were already looking for the stickers. I must make a very honorable mention to Akita, because he moved everything and was working hard so that the activity could stay up and people could get the stickers, despite the fact that there were many things that were not yet mounted.

And what a great success the activity was, much more than we thought it would be! People were crazy about getting stickers, it wasn't even noon on Friday and there were those who had already got all the stickers and wanted to redeem their prize. The stickers we thought would be the hardest to get (the “Explorer” stickers, since they were going to be hidden all over the convention, or Yuri was going to give out colored eggs with those stickers inside) were actually not that hard to get as we thought. There was a group of stickers that were very easy to get and were completely run out since Saturday morning, so people were even trying to exchange the “Explorer” sticker for the “Social Commitment” sticker, which was that sticker that was run out immediately.

For those who completed their whole sheet, which was inside the conbook, with the 6 stickers, they could exchange it for a surprise prize in Con-Ops, which was an enamel pin designed by Arty & Chikle. There were 300 pins, which, at first, I thought the amount of prizes was too many, but seeing the acceptance of the activity, I think that we even lacked printing more stickers so that people could continue collecting, since even after the closing ceremonies, people kept looking for the stickers, even if they were not going to redeem their prize, they just wanted to have their complete sheet in their conbook.

What a success! Now we know what we can improve for this same activity next year, to be able to increase it and make it even more fun.
And it was also a very good excuse for the attendees to keep their conbook with great affection.

Conbook

Speaking of attendees keeping their conbook with love, I feel that this has been a great success since the beginning of the Confuror, and of which I can feel very proud, since that’s my main department at Confuror.

I'm the editor of the Conbook, and that was one of my silly dreams since I was a teenager. I always liked to buy magazines, I collected magazines on all kinds of topics: music, science, curiosities, art... and something that I always dreamed of and that I could never achieve was to be able to make a school newspaper. That never could happen due to the lack of budget from my schools. And I thought that dream would disappear because every time I saw that fewer magazines existed, and with good reason, the truth is that I don't buy magazines anymore, I prefer to consume content on the internet. But when I attended my first furry convention, something that caught my attention was their conbook, I thought it was a great idea! Since then, I always tried to send content for conbooks, and I wanted to help the conventions in some way with their conbook, but of course, they all already had their main people in charge of them.

But when Confuror appeared as a convention, I immediately signed up to be in charge of the conbook, and boy, I put a lot of heart into it, and I loved that the same community contributed with a lot of content so that their drawings and their pieces appeared within said publication.

That first year of Confuror, in 2018, an activity that the attendees themselves created was a bit accidental, and that ended up giving the conbook a sentimental value far beyond what was planned. We had a page left over in the conbook, and we debated what else we could include within that single page, in the end it won out to leave it blank and title it “Notes and Scribbles”, but the attendees used that page as if it were a yearbook, and they asked their friends, artists and other attendees inside the convention for autographs.

So in 2019 that blank page was purposely included again, now titled “Notes and Autographs.” But the convention had doubled its attendance level, so one of the requests that many asked was to increase that autograph page to two, instead of just one, because they couldn't fit all the autographs that they wanted to ask for, and in fact I witnessed it, I remember that they asked me for an autograph and I had to sign it on a different page of the conbook which was not planned to be scratched on it.

So in 2022, I increased that section to two pages, and boy did people keep going crazy with it, they asked too many autographs from everyone, they filled both pages. And then not only did people keep their conbook with a lot of love because of the design, but also because of the sentimental value it presented. And now with the Yuri's Quest, that people really embraced that activity, it was a double reason why people kept their conbooks.

I saw posts on the internet where people showed the 3 different conbooks of Confuror that have existed with lot of pride, some even framed it, or keep them in very special places in their homes. We even saw conbooks in Con-Ops in the Lost and Found section, and people looking for them, worried, if someone hadn't seen their conbook, and when they saw them being recovered, they had a look of relief that they hadn't lost it.

It is a phenomenon that I have not seen at other conventions yet, that people have so much appreciation for their conbook. In the United States there are many conventions that have completely stopped doing conbooks, or that have made them virtual (for more that I love conbooks, I always forget to check them when they are only virtual). Or they do get printed but people don't want to take them, or they forget and don't want to carry them back home. Instead, in Confuror it has become quite a treasure that people feel as part of their experience of going to the convention. And that has also felt like a great success.

Own Panels

In this Confuror I requested 3 own panels, all of which were accepted (no surprises, hehe) and all the 3 were settled on for Saturday. The panels were: Live Fursuit Figure Drawing, Fursuit Charades and Doodles for Charity.

Fortunately, all 3 panels were very successful. The first of them, Live Fursuit Figure Drawing, I recorded it, but I haven't taken the time to edit it to share it on the internet. It is the one I was most nervous about, because… my proposal for this panel was a bit to make a parody (without any desire to mock) for those drawing classes that are with live nude figures, and that the artists have a few seconds to draw the pose that they have in front of them, but the idea that I had when putting fursuiters posing, is that fursuiters as living cartoon characters tend to never stay still and are difficult to control, so asking them to stay still in a same pose for a certain amount of time would be quite impossible, and then the drawing class would become more like kindergarten than teaching a class for artists. When I thought of that idea as a panel I thought it would be something funny and that people would enjoy it more as a show than as an art class. But I started to get nervous when it occurred to me that maybe people would go to that panel to want to learn seriously and not to see a clown show, so I didn't know how the audience would react. However, everything went according to plan, the audience had a lot of fun, they laughed at everything the fursuiters did, it was a total lack of control on the part of the fursuiters (and that was exactly the intention).
I had to give the panel in English and Spanish at the same time, as I had an audience from all over the world, and they seemed to really enjoy it. A big round of applause for the fursuiters who were helping me for that panel, who put on a very funny performance: Yuri, Raucous, KOIDELCOYOTE, Avocado and Pink Diamond.

The next panel was the Fursuit Charades. Which was the only one of my panels that didn't go according to plan. It was already the 4th time that he organized the Fursuit Charades in a convention, so I thought I already had experience in it, however, this year in particular there were many fursuiters who wanted to sign up to play. I always planned the games for 16 fursuiters, and I had plan B, C and D in case there were fewer fursuiters than expected. But this year 29 fursuiters were wanting to sign up, almost twice as many as expected. So because of the panic I wanted to improvise and I chose 20 fursuiters instead of 16, so it wasn't that good for the game, since the teams were very big, we had to improvise some prompts for them to act, since I didn't have prepared so many, and I had to reduce the game shifts so that the activity could happen in less than an hour. I feel like for the next one, I won't have to touch my heart so much and strictly pick only 16 fursuiters, as I originally planned, or plan a new game strategy for when 20 or more fursuiters sign up. Even so, people had fun, both the fursuiters and the audience, and they let me know at the end of the panel how much fun they had, but I got a bit of a bad taste because I knew it could have been better and more fun, instead I felt like I was improvising a lot of things.

My last panel I did that day was Doodles for Charity. 10 fursuit artists drew doodles for people, equipped with giant pencils and crayons, people donated with whatever they wanted in order to take away a drawing from any of those artists. The artists that helped me make this panel happen were: Almita Otter, Rocket Raccoon, Rom Howler, Wolfhug, Frechet, Franko, charmandrigo, Yaki, Katx Fish and Douglas Cat. Also a huge success of the event, we raised a lot of money for charity During the event (which we could not count at the time and was combined with the donation of other charity events), all the time there was a flow of people wanting drawings during the entire hour that the activity lasted.

Art Jam and Golden Tail Awards

After that day that I had 3 panels almost in a row, my throat couldn't take it anymore, I began to feel hoarse and I thought I was going to get sick.
But from that moment I felt that I finally had a moment of freedom, without urgent convention pending, without any commitment, so I wanted to sit in the Zoo, do an art jam, some art trades. I agreed with my friend Frechet, who was accompanied by Charmandrigo and Rexy. Frechet was one of those people that I wanted to meet so much, and he finally came to Mexico, I was finally able to meet him, and it frustrated me a little that I was so busy and couldn't share a little of my time with him. So I took advantage of those free moments I had to see him, sit down to draw and talk.

While that was happening, at the same time there was a gigantic line of people going through the entire convention center, it was the line for the Night Market, because apparently all the 1,800 attendees of the convention decided to go and line up for that Dealers Den of things 18+ , the truth is that I don't know what they were expecting to see in there because they all left disappointed after having waited so long and finding themselves…just like what they had to find there: a dealers den with 18+ art. I didn't go in, but I enjoyed a lot of quiet time doing art trades at the Zoo.

Also at that time, someone told me that the Golden Tail Awards event had already taken place, where I was nominated in the category of Best Comic for Art & Biro. According to me, I did want to attend, and I even had a speech prepared in case I won, but already during the convention I had so many things on my mind and I was so aware of many other things that I completely forgot to take a look at that event. However, they gave me my award, which is greatly appreciated.
About the awards, what I don't like is that there is some controversy when choosing nominees and deciding who is better at something than someone else. I think that the Furry fandom should be collaborative, not competitive, and that this is not to show who is better or who is above anyone, so the recognition does not only go to the nominees, but to all those who make this fandom a place where we can be ourselves. However, I would not like to discredit the work and effort made by those who organize the Golden Tail Awards, it would be rude for me to decide to reject the award or give contrary opinions about what that organization is looking for, and despite the fact that I did not seek to be a winner or stand out above anything, and that I will continue to produce art and stories without really seeking any kind of award or recognition, I am very happy that they have considered me and that they have also decided to give me said award. Mural Coloring and Charity Auction

An idea that I thought it was a good one to implement in the event was the creation of a printed mural that anyone could freely color. I brought this idea when I saw that at Furry Weekend Atlanta some attendees put a colorable print on a wall and a pot of crayons so that people could come and color, and thus create a community piece for many members of the convention.

I commissioned this piece from the great artist Zander Maple, who did a phenomenal drawing. This drawing was put in one of the walls at the Zoo, I put up a pot of crayons I bought at an art store, and a sign telling anyone could color it however they wanted, and that the final piece would be auctioned off for charity.

Actually this was a great experiment, I didn't know if people were really going to participate, if they were going to respect that they only colored it with crayons (since I put the printing directly on a wall of the convention center, it would have been catastrophic if someone decided to color something with oil markers, and I did indicate in the activity instructions to only use crayons), and also wanted to see if the crayons would survive after the convention, since I wasn't sure if someone would steal them or respect them all the time instead. And one last experiment was going to be…if the piece would be finished before the convention was over, and if someone would pay something for that piece during the charity auction.

All results of that experiment were positive: yes, the illustration was completed and with a very beautiful result, yes they respected only coloring it with crayons, and all the crayons survived, I was able to keep them back (and surely they will be the same ones that I put for next year). And best of all: during the charity auction, $2,500 pesos were raised for this piece. It really fills me with pride how beautiful this community is!

And speaking of the charity auction. What an event! Uncle Kage and Policho, the respective chairmans of Anthrocon and Argentina FurFiesta together running the charity auction were a great team! Even if someone wasn't going to bid to take any pieces, it was just entertaining to watch this event because of all the funny comments they both made about each of the pieces and the behavior of the people bidding. I donated two pieces for auction, one was an art commission slot, and the other was a painting printed on canvas. Between both pieces, $9,500 pesos were raised for charity. Fairly good! And I also ended up buying two pieces. One was the Argentina FurFiesta registration gift pack, and an original piece from Animal Art Crimes.

It is curious what happens to us with the Confuror charity auctions, which in addition to being the event where the most is gathered for charity, has also been an event that has increased its duration more and more (which we should not allow, since no one would put up with an auction-only event lasting more than an hour and a half, we must create new ways for people to bid for auctions, even when they are for charity, as many conventions in the United States do with silent auctions). Well, the first time in 2018 the auction was scheduled to last half an hour, and it lasted a full hour. In 2019 the auction was scheduled to last an hour, and it lasted an hour and a half. Now in 2022 it was scheduled to last an hour and a half, and it lasted 2 hours. But just after the auction, the closing ceremony began, almost 40 minutes late because of the auction itself, which no one should complain about, actually a lot was raised this year for charity.

Closing Ceremonies

One night before the last day of the convention, I was up all night inside Con-ops working on the preparation for the Closing Ceremony. It would be something that I would love to have ready before the event even started, and just leave blank what needs to be filled in with information to show at the event, but not everything was ready as it would be ideal, even the guests of honor the following year they sent us their videos during the convention, and we had to edit them and add subtitles.

What I can say is that it was completely worth the lack of sleep, that night I went to sleep until 5 in the morning, and I woke up at 8 am to be ready for the Furuist Festival, and I do not regret it, to despite having slept very little. Because the closing ceremony went wonderfully. The announcements that had to surprise were surprising, the reaction of the people was as expected, the reaction of those from “Desmitificando Tiburones”, the charity we supported this year, was epic. Personally, I feel that Yuri shone with the performance that night, and at the end of the event, after announcing the theme, the dates, and everything related to Confuror 2023, Yuri had an impromptu Meet & Greet just on the side of the stage, there were many people who lined up to hug the beloved opossum for the last time, take pictures with him, give him more gifts. I was surprised by the energy that Yuri kept. Really… a round of applause for him.

Confuror 2022 was an experience that will remain etched in my memory, it was a mix of emotions, positive and negative, but it resulted in something much more positive than nothing. Despite many of my complaints that I have with the general organization of the event, that this is not the space to mention my complaints, but I mention that to emphasize that not everything was so positive, but the negative aspects that I take away from the event are not in vain, they serve to learn from mistakes, to suggest changes, to work on the weaknesses that we still have as a team, and to become much better, in order to continue providing happiness and such special experiences to many people who spent their time to come to Guadalajara to enjoy Confuror, that in general I heard positive comments about how a great time they had, that in the end the bad experience they had during registration turned out to be little compared to the good times they had the rest of the weekend. It will have to be improved so that the experiences can come out better in the following editions, and due to everything that has been experienced, one can empathize much more with the rest of the convention staffs, especially those that are much larger than Confuror, because after all, all Those of us who work helping a convention are human, we do it voluntarily, we give our time, money and effort so that an event is successful and people can have a good time. And that is the main objective of why we do that, so that people have an unforgettable experience, that we furries have a space where we can be ourselves and we improve our lives, realizing that we are not alone, that there are people the same or more crazy than us, and that we can form a family with the most unexpected people from anywhere in the world.
