🌻Posting Hiatus and Other Updates by XRedMoon

Hey guys! I just got back from vacation and am only now having the time to write this journal.

-=Posting/Hiatus=-
I'm going to be going on a posting hiatus for an unknown length of time- you've probably already noticed it tbh.
I have been in a funky mental state for a while and need to take a step back. I've got a long list of stuff to do and scheduling uploads takes forever... not to mention that I'm currently in the process of moving all my stuff to other sites (see below) and reworking things from the ground up and that takes
a lot of time and stress too. Figuring out new platforms and the like is going to take me a while but I would like some time to build up a backlog
without the stress of having to post frequently. There may be one post in October advertising a YCH I'm considering to continue, but that will be all.
I just want to draw without the pressure of posting for a while.
I will still be posting to my Patreon and Discord as I have been, but the pieces won't be shared publicly for a while.
I AM MOST ACTIVE IN DISCORD! It is accessible through my Patreon.

-=DeviantArt=-
I am deactivating my DeviantArt account of seven years on Oct. 1st.
I have already announced it over there about a week ago, but with the direction the devs are deciding to take the site despite the widespread outcries against it. I used to say if I ever had to leave DA for any reason, I'd leave my stuff up but the circumstances have changed and with the newest announcement that DA is officially supporting NFTs, I want nothing to do with it and do not feel safe leaving my work up unattended. I want out sooner, but I'm going to keep my word and wait until the day I've given for people to do the switch.

-=Where to Find Me=-
With the loss of my DeviantArt, which has been my biggest platform until Eclipse, I have decided to expand to a few places. They aren't ideal, and certainly have their own issues but I'm going to make an effort to post to them when I return from my hiatus.

I hope you manage to get some rest and get your mojo back while on hiatus.

I think DA just signed their own death certificate from what I now hear from users posting here that they’re leaving.

      Thank you <3

Things have been declining FAST- so much so that it's stressed me out completely. tbh I'll be surprised if DA lasts another year- they're so desperate for money already; starting with taking what were free features and putting them behind paywalls and now this, it just hit the final nail in the coffin. I knew it was coming but that doesn't mean I was ready for it :(

        You’re welcome. :)

I remember when Deviant Art was “the start of everything” and everyone I knew was on that site long before I did anything on the internet. It’s very sad that they seem to hop on the newest bandwagon every time and it seems to be driving them off a cliff. I know some people are reluctant to leave sites where they have their fanbases built up, but it just sounds unfriendly, unsafe and not-respectful anymore. :/

I hope more people actually do decide to leave, it might finally show the admin something over there.

Same here!! DeviantArt was my internet home for so many years; I had friends and a sense of community over there, but ever since Eclipse hit that's all vanished. To be honest, that's what's hitting me the most, is losing all the following I've built up and how it will affect my business...but at the same time, my DeviantArt is no where near where it once was.
I get no interactivity anymore, all my mutuals left much earlier than me and I'm pretty sure most of my clients come from other places anyways. It's a blow to my pride, but I think leaving will be better in the long run for my mental health. I just hope I'll be able to keep doing what I love to do even if I'm losing a platform. :(

I hope so too, but the previous mass exoduses haven't done anything yet. DA is digging it's own grave.

In a way, that’s how I felt when I left FurAffinity. It was something that saddened me, but I could no longer endure the harassment and bullying, with an administration who never wanted to take care of it. And blocking meant nothing when anybody could create dozens of accounts on that site and keep harassing you from new accounts if you blocked one. I never made a formal announcement, but I did message everyone I felt like I was friends with—offered communication paths beyond FA, some accepted, some didn’t. In fact, one weekend I cleared my gallery of all submissions and on my final day there, I wiped my user page of biographical babble and merely thanked people for their support and provided a link to my Weasyl account. But, overall, I had to do what was right for me, even if it meant leaving behind friends and fans…….and I never really regretted leaving the site, only people who didn’t want contact with me in other means of doing so. I have been far happier with Weasyl (and Toyhou.se) and the people I’ve met here. :)

The funny thing, I remember being on FA when Weasyl came about as a new site and everyone was like begging for invites—and practically all those people never gave their hard-won Weasyl accounts a chance and just said “I don’t get much attention, I’m leaving”. But you wonder if they could have rebuilt their fanbase if they put in the effort to be active and post, instead of just leaving after a few weeks? chuckle I suppose people think it’s easier to be where you’re established as popular, rather than to be somewhere that you can be happy and less stressed out….. shrug
